Hi Joanne - I have spent hours researching this and I tend to agree that James was the son of John and Alice Uren with John in turn probably the son of another James Uren. I have one difficult problem to solve though and that is the reason John named a daughter Grace Hodge Uren. There was a John Uren who married Grace Hodge at Gulval about 1767 and that is the logical origins but I can find no link for your John back to this family.
Briefly what I have is that John Uren was married twice and that James was the second son of that name from the second marriage:-
John Uren bn about 1795 Gulval married Elizabeth Corin at Gulval 7th April 1822. There were two children from this marriage, Elizabeth bp. 1823 at Gulval and Mary Jane bp. 1825 at Ludgvan and buried 1827 at Gulval. Elizabeth can be found in the 1841 Census with John and his second wife.
Elizabeth Uren of Longrock age 27 was buried at Gulval 27th July 1827
John Uren, widower, married Alice Thomas at Gulval 18th November 1831
James son of John and Alice Uren of Longrock bp. 1st March 1840 at Gulval
Hope that helps.

A pleasure Joanne. It looks probable that Elizabeth Corin was one of only two possibilities who were both baptised at Gulval - Elizabeth daughter of Philip Corin baptised 1799 or Elizabeth Oliver Corin baptised in 1800 to Charles and Elizabeth. At the moment I am not able to eliminate one or the other but at least I can't see any other candidates so it should be possible to sort them out. CT
