I'm a bit stuck with this couple and wondered if anyone has traveled this route before me John Casley and Martha Wallis married in St Just 4 June 1786. The image of the marriage register states both were of the parish and bachelor and spinster. I've been looking for a baptism for Martha Wallis (or Wallish) and the only one I can find is a baptism in St Buryan 5 May 1764 to Peter Wallis and Martha (nee Maddern) Baptism record states the family are from Sennen. Martha Casley (nee Wallis) is in the 1841 census living with her daughter Hannah and son-in-law James Harvey. Martha's age is given as 75 yrs suggesting a birth date of abt 1766. Her burial on 23 March 1844 in St Just gives an age of 82 yrs suggesting a birth date of abt 1762. I've checked through the Canon Taylor transcripts to see if I could find a Martha Wallis, but nothing in the appropriate time frame. I'm just a bit dubious about the 1764 baptism in St Buryan, as the marriage in 1786 says Martha is of the parish of St Just. No banns of their marriage was read in St Buryan as I checked on Familysearch. Also John and Martha had 12 children: Hannah b.1786-d.1805 John b.1788-d.1825 Elizabeth b.1790 George b.1791-d.1795 Margaret b.1796-d.1867 George b.1797-d.1856 William b.1798-d.1809 Thomas b.1799 James b.1802 Martha b.1804-1878 Henry b.1806 Hannah b.1809-1859 Not one child called Peter! And there is obviously a significance with the name Hannah, but I haven't found it yet. John Casley's parents were George Casley and Elizabeth ? (no marriage found for parents yet, another mystery!) If anybody has any ideas, I would be very grateful to hear them

If you decide to check for other children of Peter Wallis there are at least a couple at Sennen. However the OPC site currently has the name of the first child incorrectly transcribed as Mary. It is, in fact, Margt. (Margaret)
I have submitted an error report on this and it should be corrected within the next few days.

Hi Cornish Terrier, I had the first child down as Mary so many thanks for the correction. I do sometimes check the registers on Familysearch to make sure that the info is correct, but I haven't got round to it yet. So much to find out, and so little time to do it in ......

Yes ... and I find quite often that if I think an hour should be sufficient to do something then it is a good idea if I set aside a week!!! And sometimes even a week is not enough! CT

Just to update this thread - I've found the elusive George Casley and Elizabeth marriage - YAY! On Cornwall OPC: Record No. 1019669 St Just in Penwith - 31 Aug 1760 - George Casley and Elizabeth Rosevear Transcriber Notes: BTs Had to wait for the Bishop's Transcripts to be added to the OPC but it was worth the wait and a nice surprise for Christmas Elizabeth Rosevear was baptised in St Just 26 May 1735 to John and Elenor Rosevear. Residence is given as St Issey, which is where I believe her father was originally from. John and Elenor Rosevear's marriage: Record No. 483499 St Ives - 11 Feb 1734 - John Rosvear of Wadebridge and Elanor Champion of St Just. Transcriber Notes: Phillimore Well I won't bore anyone else with the rest. This is the weird thing. The night before I stumbled across the marriage on the OPC, I did look at George Casley and I looked at the note I had left on my online tree saying, "I've checked the original Marriages and Banns book for St Just on Familysearch and there is a page missing with marriages from 1761. It's probable George Casley's marriage or banns were on that page! Need to check Bishops Transcripts for this marriage." I think the genealogy fairies had a hand in this

Hi Pollyq - funny you mention those missing marriages. I must say that I had forgotten about George Casley at the time but some time back I had a problem with another marriage during that same period. After looking through the St Just register I discovered that there is a note in the register indicating a missing page. So now I have also seen the BTs for that missing page and can verify the information in the OPC site. I can also verify the baptism of Elizabeth in 1735 as well as the marriage at St Ives in 1734. (I have checked the relevant registers for each. ) CT

I've had a look at the Parish Register showing 1754-1813 Marriages.
Image 13 Pages 24 & 25. Marriages from 17 Nov 1759 to 15 Aug 1760.
Image 14 Pages 28 & 29 ie Pages 26 & 27 are missing.
Page 28 has one marriage only on 13 Aug 1760. One would have expected the marriage of George Casley & Elizabeth Rosevear on 31 Aug 1760 to have appeared in this page.
Page 29 has marriages from 01 Nov 1760 to 06 Jan 1761.
Image 15 Pages 30 & 31 has marriages from 18 Jan 1761 to 18 Dec 1761.
Image 16 Page 32 & Page 35, ie Pages 33 & 34 are missing.
Page 32 has marriages from 19 Dec 1761 to 06 Feb 1762. Page 35 has marriages from 02 Sep 1762 to 01 Nov 1762.

Allan - it might be worth you contacting the OPC for St Just to see if he/she has the Bishops Transcripts available. If so then see if you can get a lookup done to see if the marriage might be recorded there.

CT The opc database says exactly that, the transcription is from the BTs which you had already quoted earlier in this thread. You must be having a hard day!

Londoner - more than one hard day of late methinks!! - I thought that marriage sounded familiar but I did not have it entered into my database so it did not occur to me at the time to check back through the posts! Checking my PR collection now and I see that I now have copies of the BTs for 1760 to 1762 with that marriage included. Of course those particular BTs only show the names and date with no witnesses and no other details. CT
