Shame that we don't get the games(Aussie rules) no more on terrestrial tv. Use to love watching it, i also loved it when your guts came over to Ireland to play the Irish at Gaelic football. I take it that's were your game ( Aussie rules) originated from the Irish game at some point?
Things i don't like about this forum and it has nothing to do with you C.T. This forum is still in more or less it's original state that you get a forum from PB. No effort has gone into it's appearance or design. The green them/style is a waste of time and hard on the eyes. The original owner should have asked it's members what they like & dislike about the forum. They should have done this a long time ago, while the forum was still in V4 format. Then they should have tried to alter or find out how to make more of what there members did want.
First thing i would do is move those darn adverts above the forum banner/logo. Once above you really don't see them that much.

M&SFHF - I was a 'founder member' of the forum when it was set up and mostly it was about setting up the board itself rather than worrying about aesthetics. Right from the start the queries created lots of work so all the concentration went into helping people. Kathie, the forum owner, had some circumstances which involved her moving from the West Coast back to her home state of Ohio. I can't go into personal issues but I do know that looking after her elderly mother has been high on the list. I ended up looking after the forum and eventually decided I should attempt to make contact to see if I could be granted Admin privileges so that I could look after day to day issues and problems. So although I have never liked the green backgrounds I never got around to trying to find out if or how I might be able to change things. And given there have been times where I have spent up to, and sometimes more than, 48 hours straight working on just one query it has never surfaced as a priority. But now we might have the opportunity to think about it and do something about it. But rather than make change just for the sake of making change I do want to try and do some research first and then try a few things off-line. And without doing any of that I have no idea how to remove ads from the forum except than the method involving the payment of cash. And I ain't a gunna do that! Aussie Rules - no, my understanding is that it derived from a game played by the Aboriginals originally. There is apparently still a lot of debate about it and if you Google 'Australian Rules Football origins' you will find some interesting reading. As early as 1829 there is mention of a version of the game and some of the possible origins which combined to make the modern game include an Irish game called caid, early forms of Rugby and inspiration from traditional indigenous pastimes such as the ballgame marn grook. Hi C.T. What i was saying in regards the adverts is move them. not get rid of them totally that costs money and i find better things to do with my spare cash like acquire more records/books or pay for trips to do research or photograph of graves & such. What i was saying is you see where your wording of the forum name is (Penwith genealogy ) you can move the adverts above that. Like the adverts at the bottom, your really don't notice them there out of the way.

I did pay some money several years ago to get rid of the adverts but nobody could make them go away and even when several methods were tried they still stayed so it was a waste of money. Just in case anybody else is thinking of trying now I wouldn't bother as its just a money grabbing exercise when they say 'click here to remove banner ads from this forum'

Okay - I will make the issue of adverts something to investigate. Finding out how to move them will be part of the learning curve. CT

The adverts.
To make them go away you have to pay, but the problem is you don't just pay once. It is an ongoing thing. The more pages that are opened depends on how often you would have to pay. Moving them above the Banner ( that is what it is called where the forum name is) is a much better idea. C.T. if you go back & check where they are on my forum, you will see what i mean.

Afraid that is not much help. I cannot see where the are OR where they were. BTW - ProBoards Support just had me try to log in to PG using the 'New Private Window' option in Firefox. Doing that gave me back full functionality but I still have the problem using Firefox normally. I can't understand why that should be the case. Ian

The adverts on my forum were in the same place as yours are now. They are now above the banner, use your mouse to scroll the page up & down or the purple & green buttons at the bottom of the left hand side.

Sorry but I had already tried that and have just done so again. I can tell you that there are no ads when I am logged in to your forum. I see the background of what I presume are Parish Names and over that is the forum beginning with the 'Manchester & Salford .......' banner. And that is using Internet Explorer which has no adblocker.

For my part there are still a few things to get used to and some ideas to think about before I start too much playing around with the Admin functions. No further problems with the toolbars using Chrome or IE so I will have to spend some time getting my couple of projects sorted out so that I can clear the cache on Firefox. If I can get that sorted then I can start from scratch to see what can be done to improve our site. No doubt I will be calling on you once that happens! CT

To Stan C-- welcome and a couple of suggestions for printing options. We are all adjusting to the new format on Proboards. There used to be a very normal-looking Printer Friendly button. Gone! Try the printer button on your internet browser's toolbar or while in a topic, right click on your mouse and choose print, or the old Control, Shift, Print option which, for me also gives the option to save to a PDF file. I, too, am a fan of printing, highlighting, scribbling notes --- often more than once!
