I note that in the historical search for Queensland there is a death in 1881 for William Glasson, son of John Glasson and Elizabeth Frewheler.
Are you aware of Elizabeth?

Call me a naïve idiot, but this wouldn't be the Wm Glasson 1802 Lelant (brother to my GGGGfather) who married Margaret Grenfell, who by 1871 in Devon says she is a widow, but I never found his death......?

Weeellll! - given that 'Frewheler' is a bastardisation of the name and Elizabeth was a sister to my 4xgt-grandfather then the answer would be ............... YES! I was not previously aware of that information but there can be no doubt who this is. Sue - undoubtedly this is the missing husband of Margaret Grenfell although it is unfortunate that no age is recorded in the index. Given Margaret was supposedly widowed by 1871 I am thinking that William Glasson's death certificate might be interesting. There appears to be no other marriage for him recorded in Queensland but obviously someone knew enough to say who his parents were. CT

Spring must be in the air down there in Cornwall, what with ice-cream parlours, ladies cavorting on bikes.... Potentially another one then, to add to the growing collection I have of marriages split asunder by continents...... You do just wonder just how different the stories from the respective spouses and rellies would be... Is it bad of me to rather like to imagine some of these chaps actually faked their own deaths, rather than the wife "just" saying she was widowed to keep up appearances...?! Sue

Hi Sue I have met a few women who have driven me to drink but never one like Margaret who could drive me all the way to Australia ;D
I immediately thought he was the husband of Margaret Grenfell as you have done.

Oh Lannanta,
Why must it be she who drove him away? Perhaps 'Twas he who had trouble honoring the commitment he made.

According to the Queenslander newspaper of 11th June 1881 it was the Dunwich Benevolent Asylum that knew - also has him born in Devon..... and importantly - aged 79 years - perfect match.
