I have the transcriptions by Devon & Cornwall Record Society of the survey undertaken on the mainland 1649-50 and The Scillies 1652. The information on leaseholds, farmers, and customs of the Manors, is very detailed so specific queries would be easier.
I also have digital photos of St Just subsidy rolls for 1594/7 1624, 1641 and 1663, plus Burian, Morvah and Zennor for 1641.

Hello Mark, Many thanks for looking up the subsidy info from your discs earlier. Re the Duchy Survey, I'm afraid to say not a single Trengove is listed! Mike

I thought as much!
There may be one in the Scilly Isles? Could you check?
Many thanks!

Hi Mark, I've revisited the Survey and no Trengove listed at all. However, having read through the Scilliy Isles have found the following entry:
St Maries Iland (St.Mary's) The Old Town near The Old Castle (Ennor Castle): Helvere Common, adjoining the last (entry - Trenoweth ten.), 40 acres., occup John Tringove and Francis Urian, £2 5s.
regards Mike with apologies for not finding him in index earlier.

Hi Kathie, No Hamptons at all, and no variant spellings I can see either!
Edwards: Manor of Calstock; we find Sibill Edwards, Flower Edwards, Richard Edwards, Robert Edwards and Robert Edward.
Manor of Helstone in Trigg: John Edwards jn, John Edwards snr. Manor of Liskeard: formerly William Edwards. Let me know if you want more detailed info on these. Mike

what sort of information do these 1641 subsidy rolls provide?

The 1641 subsidy rolls are a list of names , for example 20 in Burian including William Edwards, with what looks like hieroglyphs after them. (I know it will be Latin and figures of some sort but not my forte!)

For those who dont know, The Duchy lands did not extend into Penwith, with the exception of The Scilly Isles and The manor of Porthea near to St.Ives. The next nearest were the Manor of Helston, and the Manor of Tregamere up near Redruth/Camborne.

G'day Mike - although probably very much earlier than I would expect I would appreciate it if you could see if there is any mention of the name of Trewhella (or similar) out on the Scillies. I know that James Trewheela left a Will in 1699 and most of his bequests dealt with Towednack. However, it is 'possible' there was some sort of earlier connection. Also (asking a bit much) how many names are listed at Zennor in 1641 and would it be possible to have a list of them that I might compare with other records. Ian

Thank you very much Mike - as I suspected there is not a lot there although that 'not a lot' could ultimately turn out to be 'quite a lot' when we get down to brass tacks. I will need to look carefully through that list of Zennor names and compare with other information. So - do not stress - I think it will be some time before I need another lookup here. I do have to move and get myself set up again and I do not know what problems I am yet to encounter. Please keep up the good work.
