Without me going hunting through all this, do you have the details of the marriage between Robert Curnow and Betsey Quick in 1829 at Towednack, and in particular, do you know who the bride is?

Hi Lannanta
Re the marriage 21 October 1829 Towednack, for what it's worth, do you mind if I....?
Bride & groom both signed; witnesses And. Thomas & Charles Quick.
Robert was 1805 son of Stephen Curnow & Margaret Tyacke, but that's not the part you want to know!
As an onlooker, I would think Charles could be a good help, as I'm guessing he's 1798 to John & Alice Quick, & Charles goes on to have a daughter Alice as do Robert Curnow & Betsy Quick.

Hi Sue The family I am leaning to as Betsy's parents were both Quicks - James and Elizabeth, both born around 1766 at Towednack. There is an Alice in there as well but I will have to look for an association with Charles Quick Lannanta

Lannanta - Betsy (Elizabeth) Quick was baptised at St Ives 5th April 1801 daughter of James Quick and Elizabeth Quick who married at Towednack 22nd August 1790. Charles did not have a sister named Elizabeth but in fact there is a connection which hopefully I can describe in a manner easily understandable! Betsy Quick's mother Elizabeth was baptised 27th April 1766 at Towednack to James Quick and Catherine Trewhela. Elizabeth's sister Alice Quick (bp. 8th May 1763) became the second wife of John Quick who had been first married to Johanna Paynter. Charles Quick was the son of John Quick from his marriage to Alice which made him a first cousin to Betsy Quick. So your thinking was right with James and Elizabeth and Sue was right with Charles providing a link but that is not quite so obvious unless you know the Quicks a little better. CT

The Robert Curnow mentioned below (son of Stephen and Margaret), married to Betsy Quick, is there a rough outline of his family tree published anywhere that you are aware of - not too worried about the finer detail but would just like some basic links to make sure that I am not having double entries in my database?

I am not sure about that but given that we are dealing with Towednack and the fact there are many hundreds of conflicting Curnow trees out there I would suggest that you run any concerns by Sue and/or myself for clarification. CT

Just one quick question then CT...
John Curnow married Jane Grenfell Quick in 1871 at St Ives. He was the son of Robert Curnow. However I would like to know if this line of Curnows is linked to Robert Curnow and Wilmot Rosewall?

Lannanta - to date I have not followed John Curnow beyond the marriage record saying he was the son of Robert.
I will resolve that problem this afternoon and should have an answer with all relevant proveable links in a couple of hours.
First thing I can offer involves the marriage of John Curnow and Jane Grenfell Quick.
A transcription of the marriage record lists the witnesses as Paul Quick and James Quick. On viewing the original record I noticed that the second signiature was quite 'awkward' - almost that of a fragile nonegenarian or of a four-year-old child first learning to write. But it did not look convincingly like 'James' to me but rather like 'Jannet'. On checking the Quick family I find that the second witness is indeed JANNET (Jennet) Quick who was a sister to Jane Grenfell Quick.

Lannanta - I have the answer a little quicker than I might have expected! The answer to the above is - via a distant sibling relationship. John Curnow was baptised at the Tregerthen Bible Christian Chapel at Zennor 11th August 1841 son of Robert Curnow and Ann Nekervis who had married at Zennor 4th February 1837. John was the fourth of ten children to this family who appear to have moved to St Ives sometime between the baptism of Elizabeth in 1844 and Joseph Henry in 1847. Robert Curnow was baptised at Zennor 3rd May 1816 son of James Curnow and Jane Allen. James Curnow baptised 20th April 1783 Zennor son of William Curnow and Alice Richards. William Curnow baptised 12th May 1748 Zennor son of James Curnow and Jane Baragwanath. James Curnow baptised April 1703 Zennor son of David Curnow and Jane Roberts. David Curnow born 1662+/- son of Robert Curnow and Catherine Painter. This last is the connection to Robert Curnow/Wilmot Rosewall with Robert and David Curnow being brothers. CT

That was excellent thanks. I have been abale to make a couple of links in the Quick and Glasson families now.
I have one more if you have time??
Alice Stevens Curnow - born around 1842 to William and Mary at Zennor - does she go back into the same line as well??

Lannanta - I will show the line back, as I have it, in the same manner as before.
But firstly - Alice Stevens Curnow daughter of William Curnow and Mary (nee Hall) of Sandwich Mine was baptised at Zennor 19th June 1842.
William Curnow baptised Morvah 23rd October 1794 son of William Curnow and Alice Stevens. William Curnow baptised 17th June 1770 Towednack son of David Curnow and Elizabeth Berriman. David Curnow baptised 23rd May 1743 St Ives son of John Curnow and Elizabeth Renoden. John Curnow (probably born Towednack between 1705 and 1710 but certainly before 1720) son of David Curnow and Jane Roberts.
The last is the most probable link based on earlier research of mine and gives David and Jane as the common link to Robert from your previous Query.
I would like Sue's input on this also but it is correct to the best of my knowledge.

Yes, I am following! I concur with all that CT has said so far, due to both work he & I did together a couple of years ago, and that which I have done independently without (I think!) needing CT's help. With one exception........ I keep 2 sets of records, with a person only making it onto the 2nd once I am satisfied as to their parentage "beyond all reasonable doubt". And William Curnow who married Alice Stevens 3 September 1793 Gulval, and their consequential tribe of descendants, well, William has not yet fully satisfied me that it was he who was baptized 17 June 1770 Towednack to David Curnow the militiaman & his wife Elizabeth Berriman, although it would have been a good marriageable age for a young man who lost his mother when he was 8, his father when he was 12, so I'm seeing him perhaps apprenticed out as child labour. - William & Alice have 8 identified children, their 3rd was named David. However, he was named David Eddy Curnow, so I'm not sure he was named for William's father; the witnesses at William & Alice's 1793 marriage were David Eddy & Jno Green. Jno Green was a regular witness at Gulval so not of interest; but David Eddy was a witness at Gulval just this once between 1780 and 1810.
- Alice Curnow nee Stevens is at Kerrow, Zennor in 1851, "82", a pauper widow of sexton residing with daughter Elizabeth Polmear, lending support to the burial at Zennor of William Curnow of Sperris 2 December 1848, what with William & Alice being in 1841 with the Polmears in Church Village, Zennor, both "70". The problem with this 1848 burial being William's recorded age of 88 (quite clear on the PR page as 88), which burial age would be out by a whole 10 years if he was William baptized 1770. (William & Alice's sons William & David were at Sperris 1841.)
Yes I think William Curnow who married Alice Stevens was the 1770 son of David Curnow & Elizabeth Berriman on the balance of probabilities - just not, yet, beyond all reasonable doubt! Sue

Okay then, Amelia Jane Curnow... married Joseph Glasson in 1878 at Lelant before heading to Australia. Daughter of Sampson Curnow..... does she go back to Zennor as well or is she a separate family as per one of the discussions in the Curnow section...??
