Just reviewing one of the wills that I have: Alice Quick (nee Truman) is the daughter of Paul Tremearne of St. Ives. She married James Quick at Uny Lelant on 15th August 1745. Her will was written on 12th July 1787. The will was proved on 21st May, 1794. She refers to Also I give and bequeath unto Alice Quick the daughter of Grace May of St. Ives aforesaid the sum of one guinea to be paid to her by executors hereinafter named immediately after my decease. Who are these people

Alice Quick May daughter of Grace ( no father named) was baptised at St Ives 24 March 1780.
One might assume that her unknown father was a Quick.
Alice Quick May married Robert Marks 30 Apr 1798

Interesting... I wonder if Alice was the illegitimate child of Alice Truman's son Paul Quick.
I can't find any further info on Alice or Robert Marks.

After a lot of discussion between Lannanta and myself it was determined that the most likely father of Alice Quick May was - JAMES. James was not mentioned in his mother's Will so it is presumed he had died and with Alice Quick May baptised in March 1780 and no marriage ensuing it is possible that James died before she was born. Unfortunately we have nothing to verify this one way or another but the fact Alice Quick May is named in the Will of Alice Quick does indicate she was probably a grandaughter. That being the case we would seem to have just three possible contenders for the father - James, Paul or John. John Quick married Johanna Paynter in 1779 and was baptising children from 1780. Paul was not married until 1782 but he does appear to have been a well-known and respected man so I am inclined to tag him as innocent also. And that leaves James! Like I say, nothing to prove it absolutely but ...... CT

Interesting CT, I had James' burial as 1772 but have since found out that that is not correct and have attached it to the correct James! I have a notation in my file that Alice Truman's son James was a mariner With no confirmed date of death for James, he does seem a strong possibility.
