One last marriage which requires your assistance - James Glasson marrying Alice Cock in 1878 - can you tell me who his father was listed as please?

CT I not so sure that the identification of this James is quite so easy.... Son of John, age at marriage suggesting birth in 1842 - age at death (burial record at Blinman) suggesting birth in 1840 ...... My database only really offers up one alternative - son of John Glasson and Ann Penberthy........born 24th December 1839 at St Erth..... here we go again Lannanta

Well, in many of the recent SA marriages I have looked at for you I would say that the majority have been inaccurate with the ages. And I will take it a little further with James and Alice! When married James age was recorded as 36 giving an approximate birth of 1842 yet when he died in 1899, as you have said, he was age 58 indicating a birth about 1840. But Alice was recorded as being age 44 when she married James Glason in 1878 (born about 1833) yet when she died in 1905 her age was 87! That puts her birth back to about 1818!!! CT

But there's more! Alice CARTER married Anthony COCK at Gulval 11th February 1852 and at that time her age was recorded as 27 which places her birth at about 1824! Anthony Cock was age 22 when he married but when he died at Blinman in 1876 he was age 44. I think your identification of James Glasson might be looking a little less shaky. In fact it looks like Alice Carter was baptised at Camborne 23rd November 1822 daughter of James and Jane. In 1851 I eventually found her (enumerated as CASTER) as a servant at Penzance. When she married Anthony Cock she was 'of Penzance'. CT

Just a quick reflection with this thread of some years ago.
I never actually linked James to the family of John Glasson and Ann Penberthy. Did you make that connection or did you leave it like I did?

Lannanta - it is rather embarrassing to admit but on checking my database I find that I never did anything at all about this apart from hunting down those few details for you. In contradiction to my normal practice I never even entered the marriage or any details about Alice Carter/Cock into my database. I also never had John Glasson connected but having scanned possibilities now I suspect he was baptized at Crowan 1806 son of John Glasson and Philippa Trevean. Do you agree? CT

Thanks Lannanta - I have that connection now updated but, for now at least, the rest might have to wait until I get a chance to have a decent look at the entire Glasson section of my database. That will probably not happen until I have completed the Trewhella updates and begin work on families of spouses. As Ann Glasson is a direct ancestor work on her family would be fairly early in proceedings.
Happy to help with any other queries or discussion in the meantime.
