A new addition to FamilySearch as of September 13th is the following:- United Kingdom, Maritime Births, Marriages, and Deaths, 1787-1933A very useful collection I must say ................................ BUT!!! There are images involved ................. BUT!!! To view them you have to visit the PARTNER SITE which is FINDMYPAST And guess what??? YOU HAVE TO PAY TO VIEW, PRINT OR DOWNLOAD THE IMAGES

That's the same with any of the UK census images ( except 1881 which is free) and most of the US ones - via Ancestry.
It's not Family Search that are at fault but the system which allows commercial companies the right to charge for images - although to be fair they do buy that right and so provide income for the National Archive.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with an organisation charging for access to images it has processed or purchased the rights to, specially if it promotes more records being available on line. In Cornwall we are spoilt by the amount of free online resources, unlike some counties, particularly neighbouring Devon where I also have family interests. I go back to the pre-internet generation where the research of a genealogy was a task of months or years, involving trips to record offices, not something you could complete in an evening with a few clicks of the mouse! That said, I do regret the passing of the old IGI format in Familysearch, although the parish register images provided without charge are remarkable.
