Hi all,
Trying to untangle the threads for this lady, my gt gt Grandmother.
I believe the following is true:
Mary Michell Martins married Samuel Rogers 1 Jan 1862 Children: Philip (mt Gt Grandfather) - 1868 James - 1863 William - 1865 Mary E - 1871 Samuel - 1873 Jane - 1875 David - 1878
It is the Martins that I am interested in. I believe Mary Michell Martins to be the daughter of William Martins and Mary, both born circa 1816, William born at Towednack.
I think they just had two children, Mary Michell born 2/10/1843 and her brother William born 1842, both born in Lelant.
1841 Census William and Mary living at Lelant, William is a Farmer, no children. Both aged 25.
1851 Census Can't find them!
1861 William is a Widower, Farmer of 40 acres at Tre??, Lelant and living with Mary and William.
1871 No sign of William Senior but Mary is married to Samuel Rogers and William Junior also married and living in Lelant.
I have trawled the OPC and Family Search and had very little luck finding either William or Mary's baptisms, marriage or deaths. To begin with I thought William was the son of Christopher and Susanna however subsequent searches suggest this is not the case.
If anyone has any ideas on this please could you help me!
Many thanks, Cathy

Mary Michell Martins was baptised at Lelant 24th December 1843 daughter of William and Mary Martins of Trevarrow.
Mary was the second of five children to William and Mary although only Mary and her elder brother survived. In 1845 twins Daniel and David were baptised at Lelant. Daniel died age 2 weeks and David age 1 month. In 1847 another son was given the name David but he died in 1855.
William Martins was baptised at Towednack 20th February 1814 son of David Martins and Mary (nee Ninnis) who married at Towednack 23rd October 1813.
Mary Michell was baptised at Towednack 5th January 1812 daughter of Samuel Michell and Mary (nee Trewhella) who were married at Towednack 27th September 1796.
Mary was deceased prior to the 1861 Census but as the Towednack PRs for that period are not currently available it is difficult to determine exactly when she died. She would undoubtedly have been buried at Towednack.
Much of the Towednack information is from the CFHS Index of Towednack Baptisms and Marriages.
BTW - Mary Michell Martins' brother William married Elizabeth James Rogers who was a sister to Samuel.

In the 1851 Census William and Mary Martins were living at Trewharra, Lelant but it is a slightly confusing entry. Their son William was actually christened William Ninnes Martins and in the 1851 Census he appears as 'William Ninnes'. Youngest brother David is recorded on the Census sheet immediate after William and the way it is written infers that he also was David Ninnes. Mary Michell Martins was not with her parents on Census night 1851. I am unable to find her but if she was visiting another family it is quite possible her name was entered with the wrong surname. CT

Thank you for the information, how interesting that brother and sister married brother and sister! The sort of thing I may not have picked up by myself! I had found the confusing 1851 census entry and discounted it as I didn't understand the Ninnes references, but now I do!
Thank you again!
