Hello,
I am looking for someone that may have access to the Madron baptism register info for 1725ish. I am looking for Philip Rogers (possibly son of William Rogers and Katherine Harry who married in Madron on 24th June 1724) and any siblings that he may have had. Also, sorry if this is pushing my luck, a search for the parents would be really good too!!
If anyone can give me a hint on where to find this info online I would also be very grateful!
Many thanks,
Cathy

Hello,Cathy. Type "Phillip Rogers of Madron" (without the quotes) into Google..Go to "madronparishrecords" and navigate around the site....Madron is part of Penzance (now). The records are not complete. David

In actual fact Penzance St Mary, Penzance St Paul and Penzance St John are modern Parishes whereas Madron is on of the ancient Parishes! And Penzance was a Chapelry of Madron as early as at least 1788 and probably before. Madron is not and never has been 'part of Penzance' but rather quite the reverse. Cathy - I have the Madron records but they are not easy to work with especially in the earlier records. I suggest you start with FamilySearch to try and find what you are looking for and then I can check and verify what you find. Be aware that you will not find the mother's name recorded in Madron/Penzance records prior to 1813. CT

I meant that Madron is part of Pezance in a geographical sense, not historically. David.

David - again not quite correct.
Madron is an ancient Parish whereas Penzance started off as a town within that Parish and became a Parish in its own right in 1789.
So the reverse of your comment is true and Penzance is actually part of Madron.
But both are part of Penwith.

CT: My late father would agree with you, wholeheartedly. He was born at Heamoor,Madron U.D. (Urban District),1914. My 1952 COPY (I don`t have the original) has" Registration District Penzance" as a heading but then states "Birth in the Sub-District of Penzance" which appears a contradiction...but the layout of the civil reg pro-formas may have changed between 1914 and 1952. Penzance grew into the more populace town and so perceptions change. And it does not help those perceptions with the Registry Office being at Penzance and the corresponding district being known as the Penzance Registration District. I mean - why not the St Ives Registration District?? CT

Sorry to have stirred up such a hornets nest! I have been to Madron Church on a number of occasions as it is only a few miles from where we live and it is a beautiful Church. Thank you for the help, I think I have had a breakthrough where I found a likely William Rogers, born in Sancreed in 1699 which would probably add up. No such luck with Katherine yet but I will keep trying. On face value it looks like William and Katherine married in 1724 at Madron and William was the son of William Rogers and Blanch Rowlinge and was baptised at Sancreed 15/10/1699. I have so far found the following children of this marriage: William, 1699 * Ann 1697 Thomas 1696 (I believe then died in 1702) John 1703 Robert 1706 Richard 1710 Blanch 1712, died Oct 1713 Possibly a Bridget who died in 1702 It looks like Mother Blanch died in childbirth in 1712 having Baby Blanch as they were baptised and buried on the same day. Using a large amount of guesswork I then found a William Rogers who died in 1728 and I assume (very dangerous ) that this could be Father. I checked the Sancreed baptisms and marriages and so far have found no second marriage and no further children although I haven't widened the search yet! PHEW! Thank you again for all your advice and help. I still need to verify that I am on the right track but so far so good! I hope to one day be able to help all of you!! Cathy

Oooh - Forgot to say that William and Blanch Rowlinge married at Sancreed on 26/1/1694. Think Rowlinge may have been a misspelling for Rowlings or Rawlins but that really would be a guess!! Cathy

Cathy,
I wish I had found your posting a week ago because I have just discovered much of what you describe above. I would suggest that There was an earlier Thomas born in 1695 who dies in 1696 while she is still pregnant with Thomas b1969 and I agree he also dies young in 1702.
I also feel strongly this William goes on to marry Katherine Harry in Madron. It seems Katherine also dies young in 1731 and William and his young family move back to Sancreed where William marries again in 1738 to Allice Thomas - I believe they didn't have any children of their own.
I am a descendent of William 's son Philip b1725 - Philip b1755 - Philip b 1776 - Henry b1808 - Henry b1833 - Thomas b1862 - and Arthur my grandfather b1895.
Have you had any luck with William's parents? I have found a Blanch Rowlin b1658. Which would make her 36 when married, ok ish but would she really be still having babies 18 years later at 54? Not impossible but extremely rare (though in 1669 a woman had a live boy at 54yo).
Regards,
Glenn

Hi Cathy, I'm new to this forum and I'm wondering if you could help me I am looking for my ancestors who lived around the Madron area. I can find my great x6 grandparents who work and lived on a farm just out of St Buryan the farm was called Westmoor. Their names were Richard and Sarah (Sally) Osborne. I have found Sarah's family but I'm looking for Richards parents who I think were possibly John and Jane. Richard I believe was born at Sancreed. Hopefully you may be able to assist me. I have looked on Familysearch and other sites with no luck. Hoping you or some one maybe able to assist me any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks cross1
