Hi again Ive been working on my Uren family line and at the same time looking into my own name Perry. I can trace back to Louisa Jane Perry and family members indicate that she was from Smalford Hertfordshire England however FreeBDM site suggests Redruth Cornwall 1842. Louisa appears to have left England with her family a little bit in the family way and had a male child in NZ who took her family name as she married 3-4 years latter. If any one can assist it would be great Thanks Warren

Warren - th Louisa Jane Perry in FreeBMD is probably this one (via OPC):- Louisa Jane d/o John (farmer) and Catherine Perry of Burntcoose baptised 2nd April 1843 Stithians I think maybe you need to look at later information about your Louisa first and then try to track her back a step at a time. If family mention Hertfordshire then it may be she spent some time there but then it is always possible that the family has a few things mixed up. If you know when she arrived in NZ and can find her on a passenger list then it might start to give some clues - age for example and, possibly, her County of origin. Sounds like she married in NZ so a copy of that certificate should give a little information also. From there go back to the last UK Census prior to her departure and then work back from there. If you have any of the above details then I can have a look through the Census for you if you like. CT

Hi once again. Looks the wrong track and what would be the chance of being so lucky with both family name coming out of Cornwall then to NZ Today I was given a possible match for Louisa Family. It gives her parents as Thomas b about 1809 and Charlotte Williams b about 1813 ,Louisa was born about 1837 one of about 9 children. they lived at Colney Farm Shenley Hertfordshire. I tried checking the 1841 Census but the parish records are missing from the 1841 Census for Shenley.Any ideas ? I am trying to track further back than what I have got so if anybody can advise me the way to go about it. Thanks again Warren

G'day Warren - I bypassed the 1841 Census and went straight to 1851 where I found the family still at Colney. (I will send a copy of the record via email.) I then checked FamilySearch where you can find baptisms for a number of the children of Thomas and Charlotte. Eleanor bp. 25th February 1833 Shenley, Hertfordshire (Ellen in 1851 Census) Emma bp. 9th November 1834 Shenley, Hertfordshire Louisa bp. 12th February 1837 Shenley, Hertfordshire William bp. 30th September 1838 Shenley, Hertfordshire Charlotte bp. 1st November 1840 Saint Peter, Saint Albans, Hertfordshire Harriott S bp. 29th January 1843 Saint Peter, Saint Albans, Hertfordshire Shadrach bp. 7th December 1845 London Colney, Hertfordshire (born 9th November 1845 Mary Ann bp. 26th March 1848 Colney Heath, Hertfordshire No baptism in the records for Alice at this point. I should think the marriage for the parents of the above children would be:- Thomas PERRY married Charlotte WILLIAMS 15th July 1832 St Stephen, Hertfordshire If that is your Louisa and her family then this and the Census I am sending should give you something to work from.
