Hi all I've started transcribing baptisms for Lelant working back from 1900. I've added a pdf doc to my website with a current report produced with my Legacy software. What it allows me to do is to add death details, where applicable. I'd appreciate some feed back in terms of whether or not the format is useful or otherwise. Follow the link from: freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~chrisu/cornwall/lelant/lelantprs.htmCheers Chris

Chris - this needs to be kept totally separate from your Transcriptions of the Baptisms. With this document you are adding your own deductions and assumptions which may, or may not, be correct and therefore it may be misleading to others who think it is an accurate transcription. Label it appropriately so that people who view it understand that it is not an actual transcription of what is in the register but is rather your own work based on the contents of the register combined with other data such as Census and burial registers. There are many instances of, for instance, a child being buried but where there are multiple baptisms from which to choose. A wrong assumption here with inclusion of the data in your work would be misleading. I think it would also be wise to keep a work like this separated from the main Transcriptions to prevent any confusion. CT

Chris Great to see for the 1st time the joint baptism 1888 of 2 illeg Glasson descendants, technically an aunt 6 weeks older than her niece: Annie d of Cecelia Glasson, & Alma do Mary Hollow, who have been discussed here a while ago. I would support the view that data transcribed from PRs should be clearly separated/differentiated from deduced links to other data; a pure transcription to be labelled as such, and a file with deduced links to be maintained separately. Thanks CT & Sue for your feedback. I hear what you're saying and will do a re-think about how I present the file. It's worth noting, however, that looking at the various records together, as opposed to in isolation, does highlight some anomolies. For example I've just come across a baptism that shows the child's date of birth as Dec 1881. However, she is clearly listed in the 1881 census as age 3 months. Cheers & thanks again Chris

Chris - I understand your point and from experience I know exactly what you are saying. But the idea of a transcription is to make the information 'that appears in the register' available to the greater number of people. One piece of information may have different meanings for several people so it is important that the information is transcribed 'as is' and as accurately as possible so that the individual can then form their own opinions form the information. Tell me that you have not made a decision about something you have found in a Parish Register only to find later that you were actually wrong! I can admit to having done it myself! CT
