Hello just heading off but thought i would let you know how the homework is going....checked out the will of Ralph Polkinhorn, 1782, mentions niece and nephew Jane & Thomas,Mary wife of William Vellenoweth, sister Mary Stevens AnnLaity John Laity, then found the will extract you may have read also of Jane Ellis ( the one i read was not as informative, checked out the names of the god children and thus far including Laity children and Vellenoweths I have them bp between 1771 to 1784.... ???Patience Hervay 1776, Honor Gundry 1772, John Laity,1771, Henry Laity, 1773, William Laity 1781, George Laity 1784, vellenoweths 1774 for Thomas,1779 Mary, 1782 William It looks to me as though these families have been mingled from early 1700 with Margaret Laity being daughter of Henry Layte she bp1707,her siblings named John1700, RALPH 1705,George 1710, ANN1713 Henry 1716, Now in the coming days i will be looking to see if the LAITY'S married into the Polkinhorns, and my Vellenoweths thinking its coming together,....i shall see obviously alot more verification and work to be done to prove this theory of mine but working on it!!!! hopefully it will pan out?!!!!! If not ...back to the drawing board Cheers CT have a lovely weekend ....thunderstorms here they say!!! Joanne

Good stuff! Not always easy but it is good to try and piece together the links between different people mentioned in Wills. It gives a much better picture of what was happening and allows you to see things a little more clearly. Keep at it and let me know how you get on and then we can see how the bigger picture is looking. CT

I'm affraid I have to put a spanner in the works. I've been tracing Elizabeth Vellenoweth and William Troon and keep coming up with conflicting info. This thread and Troon thread have two different sets of parents for Elizabeth Vellenoweth and I cannot figure out which is correct.
Either Elizabeth born 1739 was the daughter of William Vellenoweth and Margaret Morish or John Vellenoweth and Margaret Rablen. I cannot find a death to confirm her DOB maybe 1817 is the most likely.
Looking on ancestry gives me the same info with many people stating Elizabeth (m) William Troon 1763 (which is correct) but again different sets of parents.
I'm in desparate need of confirmation to move forward. Can anyone help please. Cheers Julie

Well, let's start with:- Elizabeth d/o John and Margaret bp. 10th October 1731 Elizabeth d/o William and Margaret bp. 15th April 1739 Based on your comment as quoted above it would be obvious that she must be the latter. If the last child, John bp. 1783, was baptised soon after birth then I would revert to my equation for calculating possible birth years of women. That is - maximum age of 48 for a woman to be having a child with only very rare occasions of 49 being found by me. So if John was born in 1783 and Elizabeth was at that 'maximum' age of 48 then she could have been born no earlier than 1735. Based on that then she must almost certainly have been the daughter of William and Margaret and baptised in 1739. I am keeping an open mind on this for the time being but that certainly is the way things look to me. CT
