G'day CT and other Quicksters! It's been a while since I've been on line here but think this topic may be of interest to those following the Quicks, Glassons or Dunstans. Thanks to a cousin I've just received photos from an ancient Quick family photo album that has been rediscovered. The album, inherited from our Grandmother Susie Josephine Quick (whose father was John Glasson Quick), was probably originated by the James Quick family. Portrait photos, obviously taken during the Victorian era. include 20 individuals, ranging from children to seniors, Unfortunately only one of the Victorians is identified: i.e. "Grandfather Quick" - assumed to be James Quick (1793). A 21st portrait photo, probably taken in the early 1900's, is of Mary Thomas Dunstan, John Glasson Quick's wife. Should anyone like to see the photos send me a pm/email address. Perhaps some of the mystery ancestors can be identified! ;D

Lucky you!
Now you just have to tie them up with your Gmother's list of relatives' birthdates in her book, having narrowed down dates for the photos by a) studio name, if any & b) dating of the clothes by Someone who Knows (type of collar, sleeve fastenings, etc. )
No I don't have that expertise, but some do.....
Okay, as Victorian photos they may mainly predate your Gmother's birthdate list, but it's a thought!!

What a way to make a come-back! Been a while since we have seen you here but what a great find - and even better if some identifications are forthcoming. I very much doubt I will be able to identify anybody but I am certainly interested in taking a look. I think you still have my email address but if not then just click on the email icon at the left of this message and you will get me. CT

Okay, as Victorian photos they may mainly predate your Gmother's birthdate list, but it's a thought!! Sue Aha, I did find one photo with a connection to a name in Grandma Susie's birthday dates book! The little book was given to Susie by "Cousin Ernest" (Cousin Ernest being Ernest Trethowan b. abt 1881 Ballarat). Amongst those Quick album photos was a portait photo of Frederick John Saville Trethowan, age abt two, b. abt 1872 Ballarat, one of Ernest's eleven siblings. A second portait photo of about the same era, also taken in Ballarat is of a youngish woman in a black dress, but without identification - maybe a Trethowan family member? Another researcher has located a portrait photo of a handsome young couple (wedding portrait?) on Picture Australia that is listed as "Trethowan", but the lady is not my "Lady Ballarat. The search fun continues!

Enjoy yourself! This is a slightly different way of 'having fun' with family research and I must say that some of those photos are very interesting. CT

Hi,
James Quick 1793 is my 2nd Great Grandfather and I would love to see the family photo if it is still available.
Would you let me know how I can obtain a copy? Can you scan or digital image it and email / post it? Or should I email you directly?
Thanks
Damien Quick
