Does anyone have experience of working with Falmouth pre 1663? Do any parish records survive in the form of BT's Still looking for proof positive (if thats ever possible in the 1600's) of who my John Shakerley was that married in St. Just in 1659

Mike - I cannot see any reference to BTs for Falmouth at all in the FHS Library Catalog on FamilySearch. The earliest records appear to be the Devon & Cornwall Record Society Volumes commencing at 1663. CT

Hi CT and Mike, Not an answer to your question as such - sorry! However when I was searching William Glasson of Falmouth and his family I discovered that what we know as Falmouth today was a very small area prior to the 19th Century. So despite living in what it now the very centre of the town, all of their parish records were held in churches at either Budock or Penryn. Also do remember the National Maritime Museum - as their records are often broader than just seafaring activities. Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck. Carole

Hi Carole - yes, you are quite correct! From GENUKI:- That then explains why all records begin around 1663 and therefore the information that Mike is after might possibly be found in the records of Budock or St Gluvias (Penryn). CT

CT Mike, Penryn Independent Chapel also have quite good records available, though I am not sure how far back in time they go. Best wishes, Carole

Penryn Independent was a Non-conformist Chapel and as far as I know records commence in 1806.
They are part of the RG4 Series of Non-conformist records.
