CT et al
I would like to introduce my second to last family that is still not in their rightful place in my databse. The other family is, of course, that lot from Gulval and Madron, but that will be for another day.
There are baptisms for three children: Jane, 5th December 1848 at Helston, daughter of Ann Glasson, singlewoman of Union House. John, 3rd February 1852 at Breage, son of Ann Glasson, singlewoman of Crowan Union. Charles Eva, 13th July 1855 at Breage, son of Ann Glasson, of Union.
The latter, Charles Eva died 10 months old in August 1855.
Going to FreeBMD and looking for these births, I came up with the following: Jane Wren Glasson, June 1847 at Helston John Halls Glasson, September 1851 at Helston; and Charles Eva Glasson, December 1854 at Helston.
These may, or may not be the correct children. If they are, their middle names may give clues to their fathers, perhaps.
Jane, aged 3, is found in the 1851 census at Breage as a lodger with Honor Karkeet. I have not found any other record for her as yet.
John is found in both the 1861 and 1871 as a lodger at Wendron - assuming I have the correct John.
John married Jane Jenkyn in 1871 at Wendron and there was no father given for him on the marriage entry. In the 1881 and 1891 census John is not living with the family. He and Jane have children; John Christopher, Louisa, and Sharlotte Jane.
I am of course, most interested to know who Ann of Crowan was. At this stage my prime suspect is the Ann, born in 1826, to Thomas Glasson and Jane Goldsworthy at Crowan, but I have absolutely no proof of that, and at this stage I have not found her in the 1851 census.
Appreciate any assistance.
Lannanta

CT Looks a good candidate to me. I had her in my database as well and I agree she looks like the lady and still looks like the daughter of Thomas and Jane. Just forgot all about Ann being a Nancy. Lannanta

Lannanta - if I am not sure about a Christian name because 1. it could be any one of a number of variations or 2. because it is a name that could be transcribed in any number of ways then I have one procedure that I normally follow. I simply search on Surname and add approximate year of birth along with birthplace and see what turns up. Works for known Christian name and 'dodgy' surname as well but if both names are 'murdered' by the transcribers then there are always other, often less palatable, options. Use the wildcard options and then work down until you are looking at everyone born in the particular Parish for the year you want. It does work! But I agree that you have probably identified the correct family on this one. CT

CT Yes, this comes down to the way that I recorded her in my spreadsheet - alphabetical - and so I missed her as Nancy when I was looking for an Ann that suited my purpose. So the second child, John (possible John Halls Glasson) had four children with Jane nee Jenkyn in Wendron and then went abroad and looks to have died sometime before 1901 after which Jane is recorded as a widow. No rush to find him but I will be assigning them all to the Thomas / Jane family. Lannanta

CT I was right with the two boys, they are both the sons of Ann but of course I should have realised that Jane Wren would have been Jane Uren and she was the daughter of our Robert Glasson Spurr and Ann Uren story from another thread. Lannanta

Hmmm! - the old Wren Uren trick! I'll bet that 'dampened' the spirits a bit! ;D Hope this doesn't mean that you ended up with two Certificates for Jane but at least you now have another three Glassons with a home. CT

Morning CT No, I already had a parish entry for Jane and not a certificate, so no problem there. But the important thng is that I now know who John Halls Glasson is and his son Hezekiah Jenkin Glasson, who ended up on the West Coast of New Zealand is now in a family. Lannanta

Well done Mate! I have also been finding homes for a few old loose connections. Must be a sign that Winter is nearing the end and an early 'Spring Clean' is in progress. CT

CT It was Hezekiah Jenkin Glasson that got me focussed on Ann and her illegitimate children, however I think Hezekiah legged it to South Africa and I have no idea where to start looking for him there However, that can wait for another time. I only have one NZ family of Glassons left and they are the ones from the deep south and came to NZ via Bridgwater in Victoria - John Glasson and Emily Birchall probably never left Oz but their son Stephen (c1856) did. Lannanta - I think it might be a good idea for you to lay all the cards on the table regarding the family of John Glasson and Emily Birchall. I have spent a small amount of time looking through the Victorian Indexes beginning with the Pioneers Index and I then had a look at some South Australian records. Problem?? I can find no trace whatsoever of Stephen or of any Glassons with Emily Birchall connected! So if you would like to feed a little extra info this way I will have another look around and see if anythng can be found. CT

According to various Rootsweb entries, this Stephen didn't marry till he was 47, 1903, then made up for it by having 9 children, last in 1922 age 66. Sue

Morning Sue and CT Yes Sue you are almost correct, excepting that the first child, William Rewai Coromandel Glasson, came a bit too early - 20th April 1902 to be exact. CT, I am sure that I have Stephen's marriage entry somewhere as that would be the only document that would have given me that information. It was back in those dim dark days when I was not adding my sources to my family database. I will look for it and get back to you. Lannanta

Thanks for the input Sue - it will give me something more to check. Lannanta - any detail that is confirmed will be a help when you find it. I searched for Glassons as well as using the wildcard 'Glas*' so there may be other variations in the records. But I would have thought I might have picked up at least one. I also searched for Births and Deaths where the mothers name was Birchall. Very few results and none of them relating to Glasson. I will have a look at the Rootsweb stuff and see if that might lead anywhere. Also tried another search for a possible birth of Stephen Glasson in Victoria. This time I searched every surname beginning with 'G' with the Christian name of Stephen. Still absolutely nothing. CT

Sue - you must be more au fait with Rootsweb than I because I can find no reference at all to this Stephen. CT
