Anyone able to find the Memorial inscriptions transcribed for Joshua Halstead in Coruna Spain. He is rumored to have been buried in San Carlos Garden at A Coruña nearby General Sir John Moore's Tomb.
I have tried to Google the entry to find this, but because I don't speak/write Spanish I am having trouble with this.
I believe Joshua Died in Spain trying to get his family out of the country his death most likely occured in 1871-1875 ... I have not been able to find any death records for him in England ... although I did find him at home in Penistone Yorkshire in 1871 census without his family of 8 children and wife Sarah Jane Halstead (nee Crowther).
Children of Joshua HALSTEAD and Sarah Jane CROWTHER Joseph Charles HALSTEAD+ b. 30 Jul 1853 Hannah Peacock HALSTEAD b. 1855, d. 15 Dec 1927 Jane HALSTEAD+ b. 1857 John Henry HALSTEAD b. 1859, d. 7 Jun 1941 Arthur Frederick HALSTEAD+ b. 1860, d. 19 Nov 1937 Ada Josephine HALSTEAD b. 25 Jan 1862, d. 15 May 1934 Richard Lucio HALSTEAD+ b. 1864, d. 17 Mar 1917 Melquiades Astolin HALSTEAD+ b. 1866, d. 4 Jul 1928
Any help would be grateful.

Hi there; The trouble I am having with this is the inability to find any internet based index or transcription of the Monument Incriptions at the San Carlos gardens. This quite simply just might not exist at the moment and might need to be confirmed by either myslef going there or having an internet buddy travelling through the area to confirm this for me. I don't know if any Spanish information is available in a museum as such ... I will keep trying more targeted Google searches to see what I can find in the mean time. Thanks Zibetha ... any help would be welcome as always.

I am checking out the online database of the local Provincial Archives right now. They do hold some genealogical records. I'll let you know if I find anything.
Never been to that part of Spain - yet ;D

G'day Snydly. Seems you are getting around a bit with these ventures into Spain! Zibetha seems to have things in hand and I know little of Spain or Spanish records so I will leave it in her capable hands. Zibetha - should you happen across a familiar surname whilst checking this for Snydly you know where I am. Although I don't know if Malaga is anywhere near the area Snybly is interested in. And I might have some items that could do with an expert Spanish translation also. CT

No info to add re: Mr. Halstead yet, but the Archives of the Kingdom of Galicia (of which La Coruna was the capital from 1563-1982) facility is located on one side of the Garden of San Carlos and holds documents, records, microfilms, etc. in association with the Royal Court. So, it's right in the neighborhood if you end up going there, Snydly.
The database is accessible in Spanish or Portugese, but not in English. I need to go through the help tutorials again tonight. Am investigating other resources as well-- which is fun for me to do in Spanish for a change.
To CT-- La Coruna is in the far northwestern section of Spain-- nowhere near Malaga, I fear, but I am more familiar with Andalusia. Feel free to forward whatever you'd like to have translated. Can do French as well if that helps anyone.

With the information that Joshua Halstead was buried near the tomb of Sir John Moore, I now think you are probably looking at the Cemetery of San Amaro as his likely burial ground. It includes a restricted area for the British navy personnel who perished in the sinking of the HMS Serpent in 1890 which is memorialized on a plaque also in the Garden of San Carlos. There is a Spanish find-a-grave website, but it only lists one person buried in said cemetery. There are over 20,000 people buried at San Amaro with a large number of unidentified graves. I don't know how far I can get re: finding a death record not knowing his date of death.

His date of death would be in a range between april 1871 (last seen in census information in Yorkshire England) and 1881, but I guess you are needing a specific date for a death record.
What is this spanish site you are using?

Hola -- again. Currently on the road so will have to get back to you when I get home. I am not sure how much paperwork I kept on this query, but I had been thinking about it again due to our US Who Do You Think You Are TV show which featured actor Martin Sheen and the Reina de la Galicia --your area of inquiry.
Back to you later Z
