Welcome to Penwith Genealogy 'marcokenny'. I somehow missed your post until now but I have started looking at the family for you. But you do have me a little confused! When you say you are looking for the 'descendants' of James and Martha do you mean the family coming down to the present day? Or do you mean that you are looking for his 'ancestors' going back in time? I will try to put together what I have found later on tonight and post it here for you. CT

Let's put together a few bits and pieces that I have found and then you can let me know which way you want to head with this. James Dower and Martha Chapman were married at Lanner 7th December 1854 Details of the marriage can be found on the Cornwall OPC Website:- www.cornwall-opc-database.org/index.phpIn the 1861 Census Martha was at home at Lanarth (Lanner) with three children - Emily age 6, William C age 4 and Ann age 1 - and it appears then that James had already left for America. (The 1910 Census for Republic, Marquette, MI shows that James arrived in America in 1860) I have found James and Martha in each US Census through to 1910. Martha died sometime between then and the 1920 Census when James is recorded as a widower and still living at Republic. I am guessing that you know most of this part of it so will omit details for now. There were at least six children born in Michigan. I have found birth records for four of these and death records for two. Immigration records have not been searched as yet but this is again something that you might already have done. James Dower was one of at least 10 children to William and Mary Dower but unfortunately I have not yet been able to find baptism records for any of them. But it does appear that the parents were:- William Dower married Mary Nicholas16th February 1822 at Wendron I have found the family in 1841 and 1851 so can list the children but I have not yet processed everything so will leave that part until later. Martha Chapman was born at Gwennap about 1832 and was one of at least 10 children also. Her parents were:- William Chapman and Elizabeth Whitburn who married at Gwennap 13th March 1826. James and Martha were both of very large families so there will be a lot of relatives to find! That is at least a starting point. CT
