Whilst chasing up some details on one of my Michell families I found something that I am sure will be of interest to many.
This is also something that has been mentioned or discussed on a number of occasions and I am now armed with information that allows me to speak with a little more authority.
Richard Oats BENNETTS married Elizabeth NOY at Madron 25th August 1833 and had the following children all baptised at Madron:-
Richard son of Richard and Elizabeth Bennetts of Lanyon Stamps baptised 7th April 1834 privately (buried 24th October 1834)
MARY ANN daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Bennetts of Lanyon Stamps baptised 25th January 1836
Richard son of Richard and Elizabeth Bennetts of Lanyon baptised 24th February 1839
MARY OATS daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Bennetts of Boskedna baptised 17th August 1842
Elizabeth daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Bennetts of Gulval baptised 10th August 1845 (married John MICHELL 10th March 1870 at Gulval)
William son of Richard and Elizabeth Bennetts of Buswarthen baptised 4th February 1849
1851 Census
Buswarthen, Madron
Richard Bennetts, head, mar, 46, mine agent, St Just
Elizabeth do., wife, mar, 37, Madron
Mary Ann do., daur, unm, 15, Madron
Richard do., son, unm, 12, tin dresser, Madron
Mary O do., daur, 9, Gulval
Elizabeth do., daur, 6, scholar, Gulval
William do., son, 3, scholar, Gulval
As you can see both Mary Ann and Mary Oats were still alive and kicking in 1851.
Positive proof that families DID use the same name for more than one living child - albeit in this case with different middle names.
