Hi Sssence - I am not quite sure just what you are looking for here. You have quite a bit of data and you mention Joseph as the 'research line' but there is nothing to say exactly what you are looking for or how we can help. If you can elaborate a little I might be able to do something. CT

I just thought I would put it out there. I have seen some Oatey stuff around the boards, and was not real sure of the Rogers origins, always difficult when you are doing work for others. Did not want to ask for anything specific, that might limit possibilities! Curious that if Peter Oatey was Elizabeth's father, there is no child called Peter ? Someone may have more info on emigration or with connections to the older children. If the mother Elizabeth came to Australia, where were the rest of them ? As the friend I am researching for knows little about her family, I also thought putting the info out may bring some living relatives who are also looking or who have additional info. Feel free to jump in with anything that may seem relevant As the families are in areas where my own ancestors come from there may also be some connection, though there seems to have been many people in a small area! If you have something to expand on these people .. jump right in Sssence in a currently DRY Qld

Hi Sssence
Spotted your post re Francis Warne and Jane Ann Evans. They are my great grand parents. Elizabeth was their first child born in Bathhurst. The Family then moved to Sandhurst (now Bendigo). Francis and four of his children came to Western Australia in late 1890s. and joined the gold rush in the Menzies Kookynie area. Have lost track of Francis and all I know is he was deceased by 1902. Would appreciated any information either from Cornwall or of the family in Bendigo and Western Australia.
Cheers Kew

Hi Kew
Frances Warne died at Long Gully VIC 16 Oct 1900 born 1847 Calstock DEV
Francis was the son of John Warne and Elizabeth Harris married 17 Mar 1836 Mary Tavy DEV
his siblings James 1836 John 1839 Emanuel 1841 Josiah 1843 went to US - died 1898 Samuel 1851 Elizabeth Ann 1855
They apparently scattered around the globe ..
John died/buried 19 Sep 1859 Gunnislake Calstock age 48 Elizabeth was still in Calstock in 1861
John Warne b c 1813 was the second son of John Warne and Catherine Barratt of Mary Tavy in Devon
The research is for a friend so have mostly concentrated on the Australian connection and just took those that needed to be and were easily found back to UK. Not really investigated them any further than that.
Cannot say I agree with the birth of Elizabeth Ann at Bathurst.
If she was she was registered in Victoria in 1870. The parents married Sep qtr 1869 so must have boarded ship almost immediately after the marriage.
Elizabeth Ann married Joseph Rogers 1893 Ballarat VIC and had 9 children
In WA
I have William Evans Warne to Adeline Eustace Thomas m 1902 Clara Evans Warne to Robert Edgar Skitch m 1900 Menzies Francis John Warne to Lavinia Ann Berryman m 1898 VIC Lavinia died 1898 in WA Francis John then married Mary Henrietta Howlick (sp?) 1900 Menzies Samuel James Warne to Amy Matilda Godfrey m 15 Sep 1903 Kookynie WA
Mary Ellen Evans Warne married Alfred Ernest Davey 1905 VIC and died 1908 Bendigo
Eva Evelyn Warne b 1884 d 1908 VIC
Frederick Henry Warne b 1886 did not marry died 1967. My friend met him at her 21st.
Emma Evans Warne b 1876 married John Pringle Reynolds at Goulburn 1910 .. could not see any children to them ? She died 1944 and is buried at Lake Bathurst St Johns Church.
Jane Ann's parents William Evans and Elizabeth Jane Prior also came to Aus and died at Goulburn William in 1915 and Elizabeth Jane in 1883
Elizabeth b c 1830 parents were Richard Prior and Jane Seccombe married 1827 Calstock
William b 1828 Stoke Climsland parents William and Mary Ann and had a sister Ann b 1830 ..
I suspect there may be others who came just not had the time to look for any others.
My friend would love to hear from you - she is very light on for relatives and is greatly pleased that so many have surfaced.
Please stay in touch

Hi Sssence
Have just found time to return to the forum.
Thank you for the information you have provided. Elizabeth was born in Ballarat in 1870 - don't know the exact date - and not Bathurst as I incorrectly stated.
Francis and Jane were married at Tavistock Devon on 26/08/1869 and arrived in Australia in November 1869 aboard the 'Essex' so it seems it was straight from church to ship.
I am intrigued that you have found Francis died in 1900 at Long Gully. My sister and I with the help of staff of the Bendigo Family History centre did a search without any luck. Mystery continues to surround this gentleman and none of my older relations (all gone now)were ever able to throw any light on his demise.
I have copies of English census and some baptism records which I studied a few years ago and made notes on so will go over them again and see if my thoughts were right.
Interesting that your friend met Fredrick at her 21st. He was the only member of the family to serve overseas during WW1.
Thankyou again for the information you provided I will use it to fill a few gaps.
I would be happy to provide anything I can to your friend. I will post some info soon.
If come across any more about Francis please let me know it would be appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you again.

Kew - I can help with your query about the demise of Francis Warne. www.bencemtrust.com.au/search.aspThis is the link for the website of the Bendigo Cemeteries Trust and should take you straight to the Search page. Just enter Warne and initial F and you will find him. In addition there is the information from the Victorian Federation Index which gives the following:- Name: Francis Warne Age: 53 Place of Death: Long Gully Year: 1900 Father: John Warne Mother: Elizth Harris Registration Number:13519 CT

Thank you CT this has cleared up the mystery. Following up on your information I have since obtained the copies of of the entries for Francis and Jane Ann in the Victorian Death Register. I don't know how far your expertise extends but I would like to establish when and how those of the family who came to Western Australia arrived. Is there some on-line site I may be able to go to. When I am next in Perth I hope to do a search of the shipping lists to see if they throw up anything.
Cheers Kew

G'day Kew - the one thing you could try as a start is the Public Record Office Victoria website. www.access.prov.vic.gov.au/public/component/daPublicBaseContainer?component=daAccess&componentLabel=Access the Collection&breadcrumbPath=Home/Access the Collection This link should take you to the best page to start from. Look under 'I'm Interested In' on the left hand side of the page and then click on:- PROV's digitised records and online indexesUnder PASSENGER LISTS click on the link for 'Index to Outward Passengers ....... ' This will present you with a Search Form. Just fill in the surname 'Warne' and enter and you should get about 173 results. You will find quite a number with the destination of Fremantle so just take a note of those and see if you can match then up with your family. Unfortunately many are just recorded as 'Mr' or 'Mrs' or even just with their initial but you should be able to get an idea of the families by grouping all who sailed on the same vessel and same date. You might also find the following useful:- www.slwa.wa.gov.au/find/guides/wa_history/passenger_listsAnd if you Google 'west australia passenger lists' you will find a few more options that might be worth investigating.
