I'm trying to locate death info for John Davey b.1799 in Sancreed, married to Mary Grenfell, daughter Mary Ann. He would have died after 1861 since he doesn't appear in the 1871 census. Also looking for death info for Mary Ann b.1821 in Sancreed. She was still living in 1901, never married. I've checked most online sources-any ideas? Thanks!

Your search may be over! I have sent an Error Report for this one although I am now confident that I am correct. Possibly due to legibility of the original register I believe it likely that there has been a transcription error. The OPC site has the following burial recorded for Sancreed:- Ann Davy of Sellan age 65 buried 29th April 1865 at Sancreed John was at Great Sellan in 1861 age 61 and his widow was still at Sellan in 1871. I have just checked FreeBMD and there is NO Ann Davy registered in the June Qtr of 1865 for the Penzance R.D. BUT there IS a JOHN DAVY Registered in the June Qtr. It is my belief that Ann is actually JOHN! As soon as I have a result of my query I will let you know but in the meantime I think you can tentatively say that the above is your missing John. CT

The search IS over! I have just received an answer regarding my query about the transcription and can confirm that it was certainly JOHN Davey buried at Sancreed in 1865 as noted in my previous. A copy of the original was sent to me so I could see the problem and the Christian name is certainly 'messy' so I can see why it might have been transcribed as 'Ann'. However there is plenty about it that says to me that it is not 'Ann'. The problem was very easily solved when I looked at the name of the Minister who performed the ceremony. In the very same hand is the name of JOHN TONKIN and his first name is written exactly the same. That should be one less sleepless night for you. CT
