Hi all,
I've been reading all these posts with great interest. My grandmother was orphaned after WWI and shipped to NZ, so we have very little on her family. Her mother's family were from St Ives, which connected me to this site.
What we know:
Mother: Mary (Minnie) Hosking Penberthy b. 1886 St Ives
Maternal G-mother: Ann Bryant Quick
Maternal G-father: Richard Hosking Penberthy.
I note that these surnames appear to be fairly common in Cornwall. We have a long-lost cousin visiting from Cornwall next month, so hopefully he will be able to fill in a few blanks.
But anyways, those are my area's of research. Any pointers gratefully accepted.
Regards,
Shelley

Okay Shelley we can carry on the conversation here.
The Quick side of this is relatively easy as a lot of work has gone into those families in the last couple of years.
For the moment I will restrict any actual Quick information in this thread to that which is directly relevant and then further information can be discussed in the Quick section.
Ann d/o Benedict and Alice Quick was baptised in the Primitive Methodist Chapel at St Ives 25th January 1864
Her parents were Benedict QUICK and Alice BRYANT who married 23rd October 1855 at St Ives.
In the 1901 Census you will find the family of Richard and Annie Penberthy at Devonport and along with them is Annie's sister Benedict Quick age 30.
Richard and Annie had four children that I know of :-
Annie born 21st November 1885 St Ives
Mary Hosking born 24th October 1886 St Ives
Richard Hosking born 28th August 1888 St Ives
These three were all at home with Annie at Halsetown in the 1891 Census but I have not been able to find Richard in that year.
As I mentioned above the family was in Devonport in 1901 with the fourth child, Benjamin, who was born at Devonport in 1898.
Daughter Annie was back at St Ives with her grandparents Benedict and Alice Quick in 1901.
And now the problem of identifying Richard Hosking Penberthy begins!
I need to be careful here as there was a Richard HoCking Penberthy born the same year (1862) as your Richard HoSking Penberthy at St Ives.
Will post more as I find it.
