Is it really necessary to have 4 suggestive female pictures as a heading to this/our site. I do not think so. RW

RW - unfortunately I don't think there is anything we can do about what appears at the top of our Homepage. UNLESS we PAY! ProBoards provides us with the facility to set up and run this Board but for everything that is Free there seems to be a CATCH. In this case that CATCH is ADVERTISING. It annoys the hell out of me as each time you refresh a page it adds extra time to the task because of loading the next advertisement. And you are quite right that some of these advertisements contain pictures that are far from appropriate here. If you scroll to the very bottom of any page on this forum you will find two things. 1. a GOOGLE search box 2. a Hyperlink to Click Here To Make This Board Ad-FreeClick on that and you will see what I mean about paying. I am perplexed. Technology is not my thing. But I do not have advertisements of any kind when I view this board; never have done. Does this mean my technical assistant has done something to my settings in some way, perhaps? Is it to do with our particular ISP (not a cheap one)? There would be little point anyone blinding me with technical detail; I shall however now appreciate my advert-free nirvana more! Sue

Right now on this particular page I have NO adverts!! And I am reasonably sure that I never had them when the Board was first started. But I certainly get them most times nowadays even though there are brief times when they are absent. Most of them today have been advertising FMP believe it or not! I don't know how you have had it managed Sue but if your 'technical adviser' has the clues then be sure to let us know. Might be wise to do it via PM though so that the blighters don't see what we are up to! But I have been unable to find any way to get rid of them other than via the afore-mentioned link which means paying money!

I always get the adverts but the one that Roy has been talking
about is not suitable for this site.
Bordering on the edge of pornography and I would imagine if you
went into the site itself it could be worse than a page 3 girl!
Not something that if you had children interested in genealogy
that you would want them to see by logging on here.

When I logged in just now I also got the advert with the four naughty women! Not a nice advert at all.

Right now the only banner ad I can see is for Weight Watchers - harmless as far as I am concerned. Far more insidious is the targeted advertising I've seen on this board - I remember seeing a series of advertisments for hi-fi equipment I had been searching for on various websites. Presumably some sort of tracking cookie resides on my computer. However, I'm pretty much immune to advertisments (so I like to think!) and their presence on the page is a small price to pay for free access to the site.

Hope I'm not tempting fate, but....what adverts?....."Are you usung a ProBoards forum?" is the closest I get to it.

They seem to change. I've got the ProBoards one at the moment and that's usually there when I navigate to the site. However, I get other ads on the login page and usually on subsequent pages visited. I do find it sinister that they should be targeted, as I noted above, perhaps linked to login details on this site?

They're watching you! They know exactly what we're all doing and when!! I've just tried flicking page to page and I seem to get general adverts that could be aimed at anybody, ie: Gas, Telecoms, Careers, Car sales, oh and 4 ladies! None of which I'm looking for. I do tend to find a lot of advertising for dating sites elsewhere as well. I think it is lucrative business for firms playing on the emotions of sad men lol! Good job we're all a happy bunch on here
