- I think there is something Irish in your logic there! Why should Elizabeth's mother be recorded as Sarah PEEK when it was Elizabeth's husband who had PEAK as a SECOND CHRISTIAN NAME! However ...................... It is most interesting to note that there is a marriage in FreeBMD in 1864 for a Sarah FARMAN. And one of the possible husbands is .................. Thoma PEAK. IF this is a match then it would seem possible that Sarah was also married twice! Will check it out. CT

Ah but if I hadn't said it you wouldn't have found the marriage - I guess Mr Peak didnt last long - Sarah is a widow by 1871 and reverts to Farman after that. But in 1901 she is Peak again - maybe whoever filled in the 81 & 91 didnt remember she wasn't Farman. and there is a death in 1901 in Devonport - where she was living with daughter Elizabeth and family.

Lucky I checked for new messages before starting this one! Looks like she did marry Thomas Peak in 1864. Thomas Peak of St Ives age 70 buried 13th December 1865 at St Ives And Thomas was the grandfather of John Peak BERRIMAN! When I could not find Sarah PEAK/PEEK in 1871 and could not find a burial I checked marriages again. And there is a marriage in 1872 Pz R.D. for a Sarah Peak to either Thomas Jenkin or John Smith. Can't find either of them in 1881 but now that you have mentioned a return to FARMAN I will go the other way for a bit. STUPID ME! - it was me who posted 9only a few hours ago) the details of the 1881 Census for Thomas and Elizabeth Ann WALLIS which shows mother-in-law Sarah FARMAN living in the household! CT

Okay - I agree that the 1901 death at Devonport is most likely our Sarah Try. So I might leave it with you for now to sort out if Sarah Wallis is indeed the daughter of James and Margaret.

Hi Londoner James Wallis & Margaret Harry could be Sarah Wallis' parents - I don't have a marriage for her and her age is about right as being born abt 1785. I just wonder why Sarah was married in Portland Dorset? It was more usual for the bride to marry in her own parish. I really only had William Cothey in my database as his daughter was the 2nd wife of Charles Allen Quick but now I have connected up Edward Farman as well as I had him with no parents. Thomas Wallis born between 1851-1855 m to Elizabeth Ann Farman - I don't think I have any parents for him. 1881 Census says Thomas was born in Towednack & 1891 Census says Thomas was born in Zennor? I believe I can provide an answer although I am yet to find a baptism for Thomas Wallis. In 1901 Thomas Wallis birthplace is recorded in the Census as TREGURTON, ZENNOR and he was age 48. In the 1861 Census Thomas and Mary Wallis, along with son Thomas age 9, were living at Tregurthen, Zennor. Thomas Wallis, head, mar, 40, farm labourer, Madron Mary do., wife, mar, 38, Zennor Thomas do., son, 9, scholar, Zennor Mary J do., daughter, 5, Zennor There were two other children, Elizabeth Annie bp. 1857 and William bp. 1860, who both died prior to the 1861 Census. And then Selina was baptised at Zennor in 1862. Still working on the marriage but that has at least partly identified Thomas. Something I missed with the 1861 Census - Thomas and Mary Wallis were lodging with a widowed William CURNOW and his daughter Alice S Curnow who was then age 19. This would be William Curnow who married Mary HALL at Zennor 9th July 1820 and the daughter would be Alice Stevens Curnow. William and Mary had a daughter Mary who was baptised at Zennor 22nd February 1824. This Mary Curnow is an almost perfect match for the wife of Thomas Wallis. And Mary was also still single and living at home with her widowed father in 1851. I am not so sure about Thomas Wallis but the closest I can find does look a little promising. A Thomas Wallis, unmarried, age 25, born Sancreed was a servant to John DALE at Tregarthen, Zennor in 1851. Madron/Sancreed as birthplace is no problem and he was at Tregarthen so the only thing 'wrong' is that he should be about 28 if we use the 1861 Census as a guide. Other than that I should think this might be a very good match except ......................... I can find no trace of the marriage anywhere!! CT

Hi CT Is it not possible that Thomas Wallis married a Mary Jane Bond daughter of Stephen Bond in Madron on 12 Nov 1849? I was wondering because they had a daughter Mary J Wallis? Lots of wondering there ;D Sarch

No - I had looked at and considered that one but ultimately rejected it. For a start both were born in Penzance according to the 1851 Census. In 1861 they are still childless and both still stating they were born at Penzance. Also in the household is Samuel Wallis age 40, also born Penzance and brother to Thomas. And Thomas gave his occupation as 'baker'. More importantly - in 1861 Thomas and Mary were at Tregarthen, Zennor where the children were born! ;D CT

Lots of wondering there ;D Sarch I am pretty sure that that Thomas was the son of James Wallis and Mary Williams Matthews . Have you considered Thomas Henry, son of Nicholas & Elizabeth as I suggested, Kerrow and Tregerthan are very close - especially as they named their first son Thomas Henry.

He could be a possibility I suppose but I was not aware Thomas and Mary's son was named Thomas Henry. I have him only as Thomas from the Census.

Sorry - I meant the son of Thomas and Elizabeth A Farman was Thomas Henry. And I guess the Henry could well have come from Henry Farman, her father!
Even so are there any other "homes" for Thomas son of Nicholas and Elizabeth?

I can't see anything immediately and certainly nothing showing up in the OPC records for him. Nothing obvious showing in the 1851 Census either. Brain's going into temporary meltdown I think!

The fact that he said in '51 & '61 that he was b Sancreed has been bugging me. So now I think a better candidate is the son of Thomas and Patience - with them in 1841 but no baptism apparently

I have him in the database and he would certainly be a possibility. He is more likely than Thomas Henry but it is concerning that we cannot find his baptism or the marriage.
