I have a William Harris born 22.5.1773 St Buryan.
His mother was Catherine Harris with an unknown father.
Has anyone any information on the background of Catherine?
I have no other details about her to give.

Lamorna - I don't know where the St Buryan reference came from but the event does not appear in the St Buryan Parish Register. It does, however, appear in the Sennen Parish Register:- Baptisms, Marriages, Burials, 1700-1791 William ye son (a base child) of Catharine Harris, a single woman, a strainger, born May 22 No baptism date is recorded by this entry but it immediately follows a baptism for 13th June 1773 and possibly occurred on that same date. As Catharine Harris was 'a strainger' it may be extremely difficult to find out much more about her. CT

I have had this information sitting in the brickwall tray for many years. Looks like even if I had looked in the next parish I would be no nearer finding out anything. William Harris married Grace Nicholas from Sennen. They married 14.1.1799 Sennen. Catherine just wanted to give birth at the end of the world

But was William her 'First and Last' child! Remember also that I did not say it would be impossible to find any more about Catherine but merely that it would be 'extremely difficult'. The fact that William married at Sennen and then had four children baptised there suggests the possibility that Catherine also may have stayed in the area. CT
