If I let you know when it is going to be it will take the fun out of it! But as we are in the PAYNful thread you might see if you can tell me anything about this fella:- William PAINE married Ann TONKIN 3rd April 1815 at Gulval (both 'of the Parish') My main interest is that one of the witnesses was a Malachi TREWHELLA and I am looking to see if he might have a connection to Ann TONKIN which would help me sort out another marriage. In the 1851 Census William PAINE is recorded as being born at Frome, Somerset whilst Ann was born at St Buryan. On the face of it the connection would seem unlikely but it does seem strange that Malachi turns up at this particular wedding only. The other Tonkin reference is for a John TONKIN who married Elizabeth TREWHEELA at Madron in 1768. At this wedding one of the witnesses was Malachi Trewhella, father of Malachi above. CT

Well your just a tease and a spoilsport. I need to know when the fun is going to happen. You've set a puzzle with your query but I have some parish records which may help. But then again they may not

This will take a while to find out information about William Paine.
There are lots of records for Frome which need to be looked at.
Can you give me any more info at all about him?

Afraid I don't know much at all about him as I only just found the marriage (by accident) a couple of days ago.
But in 1851 he was at Copperhouse West, Phillack with wife Ann and son George.
The information from the Census suggests he was born at Frome, Somerset about 1795 or 1796.
Occupation at this time was 'master dyer'.
From the OPC site it appears they had a number of children baptised at St Austell - Henry, Edwin and Emma were baptised in 1830, James in 1832 and George in 1835.
I don't know where William was in 1841 but Anne and children Elizabeth, Edwin, James and George were at Madron.
No sign of William or Ann in 1861.
I have just now found a baptism for Elizabeth and it appears they were back in Somerset for a time.
Elizabeth daughter of William and Ann Payne of Frome, Somersetshire, clothier, was baptised 11th September 1825 at Marazion.
That is about all I can tell you although with a marriage in 1815 there should be quite a few more children.

This might take some time.
The sub site I belong to hasn't got all the Somerset records
so I think it will be a case of trawling through all the individual
church records.

There is no rush and if you can find out anything it would be appreciated but there is no need to drop everything and pursue it especially. My main interest is to see if there is a connection with Malachi Trewhella but it may turn out that he just happened to be a friend and witnessed the marriage as such. CT

Looking at the marriages of St John the Baptist, Frome I have picked out the Payne/Paine marriages.
John Payne of Whatley married Sarah Channel 20.10.1794 by licence. Witnesses were John Imber and William Sheppard.
Samuel Paine married Jane Pope 23.7.1795 Witnesses: T Jones, Mary Deacon
William Payne married Mary Watts 28.3.1796 Witnesses: John Deacon, T Jones
James Payne married Ann Barber 3.10.1796 Witnesses: T Jones, John Deacon.
I haven't been able to find a baptism for William Payne from St John the Baptist so thought I would look at marriages one generation back to see if any of these names ring a bell with you or if you can match the names up with descendents.
This is just one church in Frome.
I don't suppose it will be much help.
