A brickwall at the moment is to find out the parents of Elizabeth Payne/Pain who was born/bap 4.11.1782 in Paul.
Any help to move a bit farther back in this line would be good.

A quick search shows that Elizabeth was baptised as daughter of John and Mary PAIN.
John PAIN, fisherman, married Mary PAUL 20th June 1778 at Paul
That seems to answer the immediate question.

From another quick search I can find only one possibility for John Pain at the moment.
John PAYNE bp. 16th September 1753 at Paul son of Samuel and Alice.
There was no son named Samuel to John and Mary but they did name their first daughter Alice.
And information I received some years ago from my cousin Nancy Tonkin offered the following for Mary Paul:-
Mary daughter of Charles PAUL jnr and Mary baptised 31st March 1752 at Paul

I have a few links that could be added (Paul/Newlyn)
Samuel Payne married Mary Anne Willis 26-May-1849 and had two children, Samuel 1850 and Mary 1852. Samuel died and Mary Anne his widow married Thomas Ellis Vingoe in 1855. This was also Thomas Ellis Vingoe's second marriage, his first wife Margaret Pollard Jelbard/Gilbert having died in 1851.
I believe Samuel to have been baptised in Paul, 6-Jan-1828 to James Payne and Thomasine Hosking, married 3-Aug-1816 in Paul.
James Payne baptised 25 May 1794 to Samuel Payn and Mary James, married 7-Sep-1793, Paul.
Hope that helps...

Samuel Payne s/o Richard Payn & Ann Thomas (who according to Phillimore's were married at Paul on 6 Nov 1697) was baptised at Paul on 3 April 1709. Samuel married Alice Harvey at Paul on 29 Jan 1736 (Phillimore's - Samuel Payn & Alice Harvey).

Samuel died and Mary Anne his widow married Thomas Ellis Vingoe in 1855. This was also Thomas Ellis Vingoe's second marriage, his first wife Margaret Pollard Jelbard/Gilbert having died in 1851. James Payne baptised 25 May 1794 to Samuel Payn and Mary James, married 7-Sep-1793, Paul. Hope that helps... M JAMES PAYNE (baptised Paul 25 May 1794; buried Paul 3 Apr 1859) married twice. His first wife Thomasine Hosking who he married at Paul on 3 Aug 1816 and by whom he had four children died and was buried at Paul on 20 Aug 1832. On 14 Dec 1845 James Payne was married at Paul to Mary Dillon Batten nee Paddy. Mary Dillon Batten was the widow of John Batten (1802-1832) and the daughter of Edward Paddy and Susanna Paddy nee James. There were no known children from James's second marriage. Mary Dillon Payne (widowed Batten nee Paddy) died and was buried at Paul on 11 Feb 1880. Mary

Thankyou CT for the information.
That backs up the link that I had found.
This line seems to be taking me back to Harvey, Thomas and Mathews surnames.
The Paul line flows into the Tonkin surname.
Now what a choice to make of where to go next.

Thankyou Mal for your input.
These are links which I haven't looked into yet.
Possibly off-shoots of the same line.

Mary, thankyou for the direct line info. Very useful. Hello Lamorna, I have sent you a Personal Message via this forum. I have done quite a bit of work on the Payne family from Paul parish, as my maternal great-great-grandmother was Mary Dillon Payne, widowed Batten nee Paddy who married James Payne at Paul on 14 Dec 1845. Regards, Mary

Genealogy is a difficult enough pastime without having to be serious all the time. We like to be able to have a little fun here. CT
