Very handy thanks Londoner. I can now work through and compare against the notes I took at Somerset House all those years ago! CT

Beware of this. I have been with Ancestry for about 3-4 years. Yesterday, I found about 40 wills on this new site, and was able toaccess them. Later in the evening I went back on. Found many more, but when I tried to open the pages (as I was able to do in the afternoon) I was asked to update my subscription (ie pay more). I have e mailed Ancestry to ask what is going on. Another rip off it seems. Roy

I totally agree with you Roy. Ancestry has become a rip off. I've also been a member for several years and they charge, in my opinion, a high annual membership fee. Yet, when extra information becomes available, they always seem to want you to pay more to access it which I believe is totally unacceptable.
I also tried to access wills and could not do so without paying more money.
Regards,
Mary

Well I have to say that I have had no problem although I am on the World Deluxe Membership which may make a difference.

Saw these on ancestry yesterday. First day i've had a break from renaming files since my return. If they are playing those games again, like they did with the parish records, then i better grab them quick

If you log into Ancestry and then check the list of New Additions it actually says that these are available to US Deluxe and World Deluxe members.
In that respect I don't think they are playing games but I do think it is the sort of item that could be made available to all rather than only those with the more expensive memberships.

By games i was refering to what happened with the parish resgisters they had. One day they were available on the Essentials membership ( uk term for basic one), then they just disappeared. No one on that could access them anymore, even those that had only recently taken out or renewed the subscription.

Contacted Ancestry and this was their reply. We allowed access to the Probate Calender "out of courtesy" whilst they were bining added. Once added they are available to anyone with the upgraded subscription. AKA A RIPOFF Roy

Hmmm - a tease to try and induce people to upgrade! It might perhaps be more 'Courteous' to simply advise that they would be released as part of the higher level packages.

Well i will be getting as much done as possible in the next few months that needs info from census's etc and after that will be cancelling my subscription with them. I took it out because i needed country wide access to parish records, but so far have far virtually nothing on there that i need.
I do need some 1911 census's, so might have a few months off working with the info i've brought back from cornwall, then after that go with find my past for a year.

I don't know how good it is, but I notice the G Reun site now has 1911 census, and looks cheaper.....

Interesting
I thought Find My Past had the monopoly on the 1911.
Ah well. competition is a good thing ;D

Indeed it was FMP only who had the then exclusivity to 1911. But a year ago the owners of Frs Reuni of which Gens Reun is a part, sold the company to the DC Thomson group, who had previously bought FMP. Then there was a Competion Commission investigation, but the company was cleared in March 2010. Some interesting comments here: www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/mar/18/itv-friends-reunited-sale-clearedSo under one ownership, clearly the 2 websites can share databases. What I particularly like is the mentions in the Press that DC Thomson are the publishers of the Beano & Dandy comics... ;D Sue

I think my kids would prefer the Beano and Dandy links rather than the Census Had another fruitful trip to the Probate office myself the other day. Found another two wills by going through the books there. I would urge anyone to take the computer system there with a pinch of salt. the two I found were not listed on the computer, and had i only had a quick look on there I would have been coming home with nothing. Neither relate to my Cornish connections. But the one i'm waiting to arrive in the post is going to be interesting. The one i got whilst i was there was quite enlightening also
