There is nothing in the marriage record to say whether or not Charles was a widower although it does say that Margaret Bivens was a spinster. She was age 63 when buried in September 1790 and that equates fairly nicely with:- Margt. d/o Rich. and Joan Bivens bp. 19th June 1726 St Ives She should technically be 64 but what's a year amongst (buried) friends! So I would say - yes, it is possible that Charles Paynter remarried. CT BTW - looks like Charles might be the one buried 21st October 1801

Hi CT Margaret Biven's age at marriage would have been about 39/40 so perhaps thats why I haven't found any children. I agree that the most probable Charles Paynter would be the one buried in 1801 which would have made him about 77 years old at death Richard son of Charles Paynter and Mary Couch married Jane Bivens b 1758 St Ives daughter of John and Jane Bivens I can find 2 Mary Paynters born to Richard and Jane Paynter (nee Bivens) but I dont seem to be able to find a death for the first Mary bp 07 May 1786 St Ives - The second Mary Paynter was bp 22 Apr 1793 The closest I can find in age is Mary Paynter who died Jan 1790 St Ives aged 9? Sarch - you can add that Mary as the right one and change the age.
I have just had another look at the original image which is extremely difficult to work with.
On very close inspection I am now satisfied that the age is certainly not 9.
It is much different to the 9 on the line below but looks much more like a 3 written two lines above.
At a stretch (a big stretch) it might be interpretted as 5 which it really should be but I have to go with 3.
An error report has been sent to the OPC and the record should be changed soon.

A note on the BIVENS family. If you are searching IGI for them you will need to also look at BEVIN, BEVANS and may be a couple of other variations that the Soundex does not pick up. There seems to be no locatable baptism record for John Bivens but I would suspect he should probably belong to the family of Richard and Joan. But what you will be interested in is the identity of Joan given that her daughter Margaret married Charles Paynter. Richard BEVANS married Joan PAYNTER 1st October 1717 at Lelant They seem to hunt in tribes! CT

Hi CT Marvelous detective work once again I am presuming because of the second name that the John Bevan Paynter bp 13 Jan 1803 St Ives is the grandson of Richard Paynter and Jane Bivens? Sarch

I had never progressed that far with the Paynter family of St Ives but I would expect that would be the case.
