Hi Everyone
Just found your site trawling through family names at St. Ives. Only just started on the Cornish side of things but ancestors include Honor QUICK m Peter THOMAS (1775) who's son John m Nancy PAYNTER (1824). Other names on that side include STEVENS, DAVY, GREENFIELD amongst others I believe.
Big brick wall tho' gggrandfather John GLUYAS illegitimate son of Ursula/Priscilla DANIEL born 1823 St. Ives.
Hope to post on forums in next few days.
Lennie

HI Londoner Nancy Gyles Paynter born 9 Feb 1803 daughter of William and Mary died in 1807. Ok so that makes her a bit older, so what about Ann (Nancy is often used as a diminutive of Ann) daughter of John & Ann bapt 18 Jun 1797 Or have you already ruled her out too?

Hi Londoner Ann b 1797 daughter of John and Ann Paynter is a possiblility - I can't find a marriage of an Ann Paynter and 1797 fits in with the ages in the census esp the 1851 census that Nancy was born abt 1797 - 1801 So Ann might be Nancy Sarch

Well I am back after a couple of days upgrading Windows and other things on the PC. My opinion is that Nancy was the Ann Paynter baptised at St Ives in 1797. Her parents would be John Paynter and Ann Oates who married 12th December 1796 at St Ives. John Paynter was a cordwainer and I believe it is he and his wife (also Nancy at this time) who were living at West Bridge, St Ives just a few doors from John and Nancy Thomas. A John Paynter was witness to the marriage of Ann to John Thomas. It looks possible that John was the son of Edward Paynter and Mary Harry although Edward was a carpenter. But John was recorded as age 68 in the 1841 Census and the only baptism that would be close at St Ives was the son of Edward and Mary baptised in 1771. The way John and Ann Paynter named their children seems to point to the above:- Ann bp. 18th Jun 1797 John bp. 3rd January 1800 Edward bp. 2nd April 1802 Mary bp. 24th November 1805 Prudence bp. 1st January 1808 Christian bp. 17th December 1809 These last two names are drawing me towards another Quick connection. John Paynter, brother to Edward, married Prudence Quick at St Ives in 1765 and two of their daughters were named Christian and Prudence. But let's make sure the initial connections are correct before getting too carried away! CT

Thanks to all those that have kindly responded. I do know from some previous family research that John THOMAS was the son of Honor QUICK and Peter THOMAS so how would Honor fit into the QUICK family. From what I have seen from the site the QUICK family seems rather complicated.
Cheers, Lennie

Andrew QUICK married Honor THOMAS 11th June 1745 at St Ives (But please don't ask me who this Honor Thomas was!! ) Honor Thomas (wife of Peter) was buried at St Ives 19th January 1825 age 80 CT

Sarch - a couple of corrections or other details for you.
Honor Quick was actually baptised 3rd February 1745 (Old Style) so your information should show 1745/6.
Mary Paynter Thomas baptised 29th October 1824 St Ives
John Glewis Daniel s/o Pricilla baptised 4th April 1823 St Ives

Hi CT Thanks for pointing that out - the old computer program does its own thing there with sorting the calendar out and I didn't notice ;D I see that John was baptised John Glewis Daniel son of Pricilla - marriage says that his father ws John Gluyas, Mine Agent. 28 Jan 1845 by Banns John Gluyas 21 bachelor Joiner of St Ives (Father John Gluyas, Mine AgentO) Mary Paynter Thomas 21 spinter of St Ives (Father John Thomas, Carrier) Witnesses John Thomas, Honor Curnow. I can't find Pricilla in the 1841 Census But I can find John Daniel Carpenter aged 15 - would need to look at a film of the original of the baptism and see if transcriber had a problem with the writing of the name Ursula and transcribed it as Pricilla instead. Address: Fore Street -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DANIEL William M 60 Tin Dresser Cornwall DANIEL Ursula F 70 Cornwall DANIEL Ursula F 35 Cornwall DANIEL John M 15 Carpenter Cornwall John Gluyas and wife Mary P Thomas and Ursula Daniel all seem to be missing from the 1861 Census? I did find a marriage in 1859 on FreeBMD for an Ursula Daniel and in the 1861 Census find a James and Ursula Woolcock aged 59 in Fore St. In 1871 Ursula Woolcock is a widow aged 62 and has niece Peggy Daniel staying with her Sarch

Thanks CT and Sarch The Gluyas connection was my next question but wasn't sure it was the right forum. John born to Priscilla is my gggreat grandfather and is on the 1861 census in Bristol. I haven't found a Priscilla and I've either rightly or wrongly assumed she was Ursula as one of the Daniels is down as Ursilla on one of the censuses (can't remember which one off the top of my head). It is definitely Priscilla on the baptism record as I have a copy. I have tried checking all the John's that could possibly be his father but none on the 1841 are that high up in the hierachy as a mine agent. His son, however, could have exaggerated his position. The only one that might fit the bill is the John Gluyas that left for the states as an engineer. I think he may have married a Mary Bennett though. Any other pointers of where to go would be appreciated. Helen PS Can someone tell me why I can't use the emoticons?
