In the 1841 census Robert and Ann Glasson, aged rounded to 20 years, are at White Stile Downs in Crowan by themselves.
In the 1851 census they are not to be found.
However by the 1861 census they are in Crowan at Burnt Downs.
Glasson Robert Head 45 Miner Crowan 1816 Crowan 1575-45 Burnt Downs
Glasson Ann Wife 42 Gwinear 1819 Crowan 1575-45 Burnt Downs
Glasson Robert Son 19 Miner Crowan 1842 Crowan 1575-45 Burnt Downs
Glasson William H Son 17 Miner Crowan 1844 Crowan 1575-45 Burnt Downs
Glasson Jane Daughter 13 Scholar Crowan 1848 Crowan 1575-45 Burnt Downs
Glasson Isaac Son 7 Scholar Crowan 1854 Crowan 1575-45 Burnt Downs
Glasson John Son 3 Scholar Crowan 1858 Crowan 1575-45 Burnt Downs
Glasson Amelia Daughter 9mo Scholar Crowan 1860 Crowan 1575-45 Burnt Downs
In the 1871 census they appear again and it is clear that the age calculations are all over the place:
Glasson Robert Head 42 Engine driver Crowan 1829 Crowan 6-061 Trenoweth
Glasson Ann Wife 51 Gwinear 1820 Crowan 6-061 Trenoweth
Glasson Isaac Son 19 Crowan 1852 Crowan 6-061 Trenowith
Glasson John Son 16 Crowan 1855 Crowan 6-061 Trenoweth
Glasson Amelia Daughter 12 Crowan 1859 Crowan 6-061 Trenoweth
Glasson Thomas Son 10 Crowan 1861 Crowan 6-061 Trenoweth
By the 1881 census the ages are back to something similar to 1861:
Glasson Robert Head 63 Miner Gwinear 1818 Crowan 2327-43 Copper Bottom
Glasson Ann Wife 60 Scholar Gwinear 1821 Crowan 2327-43 Copper Bottom
Glasson John Son 22 Ag - Labourer Crowan 1859 Crowan 2327-43 Copper Bottom
Glasson Thomas Son 17 Miner Crowan 1864 Crowan 2327-43 Copper Bottom
So at first I wondered what happened in 1851. I searched on all the names both surname and christian with no luck. Finally in desperation I found some other families in 1861 and went back to 1851 to find them and see who there neighbours were. I found the following family at White Stile Downs:
Ivey, Robert, 35, born Gwinear.
Ivey, Ann, 30, born Gwinear.
Ivey, Robert, 9, born Crowan.
Ivey, William H, 7, born Crowan.
Ivey, Jane, 3, born Crowan.
Ivey, Alice, 1, born Crowan.
Also Jane Uren, sister, born Gwinear, unmarried mother, aged 34.
The next door neighbour was an Ivey family also.
So I searched freebmd for Alice as I imagined her age to be the most accurate.
Alice Glasson appears in the births in the March quarter of 1850 at Helston district.
Alice Ivey appears in the births in the March quarter of 1849 at Helston district.
So I am guessing at the moment that the family's surname has been entered incorrectly and would appreciate some feedback on that.
Also I cannot find a marriage for Robert and Ann and would appreciate some asistance if the appropriate records are available.
Actually when I think about it I cannot find a baptism for Robert around 1816 in Gwinear/Crowan and I cannot find a marriage for Robert and Ann around 1840. My best guess for Ann comes from the IGI where there was a baptism for Isaac son of Robert and Ann in 1856, and then a second baptism for Richard James in 1866 to Robert and Ann Spurr. Still nothing fits yet.
