For the time being I have decided to make this post simply a time-line for Hugh Collick/Hosking.
Hugh COLLICK baptised 18th January 1795 at St Erth son of Catherine
Hugh COLLICK of St Erth married Grace MOLLARD by Banns 10th October 1818 at Lelant
Witnesses:- John Mollard and Robert Hampton
Henry HOSKING son of Hugh (husbandman) and Grace of St Hilary baptised 27th December 1818 at St Hilary
Henry HOCKING of St Hilary, infant, buried 17th January 1819 at St Hilary
Grace COLLICK of St Hilary, age 23, buried 3rd August 1819 at St Hilary
** Now is a good point to stop and add a couple of notes!
You will notice that there are three names involved here - COLLICK, HOSKING and HOCKING.
Some of this will become more clear as I display the next lot of information but the HOCKING name is going to be the main problem.
From experience as recent as yesterday I know full well that HOSKING and HOCKING can be very difficult to distinguish when reading old Parish Registers and you need to look extremely closely at the third letter to decide whether it is a C or an S. (And in some cases it is almost impossible to distinguish!)
But a check of possible HOCKING baptisms that might match this burial produced nothing so I am almost certain it must be the young son of Hugh and Grace.
From her age at burial Grace was born around 1795 and there are two possibilities.
As John Mollard was a witness to the marriage I think it possible that he was her father.
Grace d/o John and Joan Mollard bp. 26th December 1795 at Breage
Grace d/o John and Elizabeth Mollard bp. 1st November 1795 at St Hilary
I believe the second baptism at St Hilary will be the wife of Hugh Collick.
Hugh HOSKING of St Erth, widower, married Mary Ann TRESIZE of St Erth, spinster, by Banns 14th May 1826 at St Erth
Witnesses:- William Stevens and Henry Trevaskis
** Note that Hugh is now widowed and calling himself HOSKING
Henry Hosking son of Hugh HOSKING alias COLLECT? and Mary Ann of St Erth baptised 10th February 1828 at St Erth
Elizabeth Trevaskis daughter of Hugh HOSKING alias COLLICK and Maryanne of St Erth baptised 2nd August 1829 at St Erth
William son of Hugh HOSKING alias COLLICK and Mary Ann of St Erth baptised 19th June 1831 at St Erth
John son of Hugh COLECT and Mary of St Erth baptised 4th May 1834 at St Erth
Mary Jane daughter of Hugh and Mary Ann HOSKING of PORTHCOLLUMB baptised 31st December 1837 at St Erth (born 2nd February)
Andrew son of Hugh and Mary HOSKING of Porthcollumb baptised 3rd November 1839 at St Erth (born 5th September)
James Henry son of Hugh and Ann HOSKING of Porthcollumb baptised 17th April 1842 at St Erth (born 17th March)
Edwin son of Hugh and Ann HOSKING of Porthcollumb baptised 19th January 1845 at St Erth (born 7th May 1844)
Charles son of Hugh and Mary HOSKING of Porthcollumb baptised 9th January 1848 at St Erth (born 7th November 1844)
Annie Louisa daughter of Hugh and Mary Ann HOSKING of Porthcollumb baptised 16th January 1854 at St Erth (born 12th October 1853)
Up until the baptism of John in 1834 Hugh was recorded as a 'labourer' but from 1837 onwards he was a 'farmer' and also notice that Porthcollumb is recorded as the abode from 1837 onwards.
Sort of just coincides with the death of Andrew Hosking!
The other thing of note is that from 1837 onwards the surname is always HOSKING but prior to 1837 it was Hosking alias Collick or, in the case of John, just Colect (Collick).
Hugh HOSKING age 74 was buried at St Erth 8th April 1870
The census should now be looked at for a comparison with the above.

In 1861 Hugh and Mary are still at Porthcollumb along with children Mary Jane, Andrew, James Henry and Charles.
Eldest son Henry was married with three children and was also living at Porthcollumb.
I will leave you to digest that lot and we can discuss conclusions afterwards.
