I found this site by accident today, and thought you might like to know that I've studied this particular Dennis family exhaustively, back to three brothers named Sampson, Richard and George Dennis. In 2008 I published a book about them, 'From Buryan to Bondi - the Dennis Family of West Penwith, Cornwall, and some Australian Descendants'.
Pages 38 to 52 deal with the specific issues raised in this thread. Re the Richard who came to Victoria in 1854, my own research and study of original parish records has Richard's father Peter as a son of George Dennis and Jane Lethan.
I too puzzled over the various Peters, and I tried to sort them out in my book. I've had extensive correspondence with Roy White, and have pointed out to him where our views differ. Mine are based pretty much 100% on studying the original parish films.
I also puzzled over the Penelope Head issue. In the end I decided that everything to do with Penelope was strange - despite the marriage record, I could find no relevant baptisms of Penelope Head and no burials of a Penelope Dennis. However there is a burial of a Penelope Head in 1725, so I suspect that an error has crept in to the parish records somewhere.
I have Peter Dennis and Hannah Trembath with three sons, but no daughter named Hannah.
Thanks to the work of Robin Dennis of Glen Iris in Victoria, pages 52 to 56 of my book provide some details of the life in Australia of John Williams Dennis, son of Richard Dennis and grandson of Peter Dennis and Hannah Trembath. John Williams Dennis married Sarah Jacka in 1871 and from about 1885 they lived for many years at 'Gonn' on the Murray River, north of Kerang and south of Moulamein.
Hope this helps.
