TJ - no luck so far finding anything for Ann or Christian. But I do haje to question one part of your information. You say that Richard Banfield (b. 1806) married Mary Bray. Could you supply further details of that marriage - i.e. date and place please. You see I suspect you may possibly have the wrong Richard involved here. Richard and Elizabeth Banfield had all their early children baptised at Lelant - at least until 1810 with Christian. I suspect also that Sarah baptised in 1812 might belong to this family. My problem is that there were TWO sons named Richard baptised at Lelant to Richard and Elizabeth. Ann bp. 15th April 1804 RICHARD bp. 29th June 1806 Martha Bonnamy bp. 28th February 1808 Christian Semens bp. 21st January 1810 Sarah bp. 4th January 1812 RICHARD bp. 10th November 1813 I would also appreciate details of the marriage of Richard Banfield to Elizabeth Bonnamy. And also the baptisms of Mary and John which I am currently unable to find. But back to the young Richard! In the 1851 Census there is a Richard Bamfield living at Redruth. Richard was born at Lelant about 1813/14 and is now married to Elizabeth (born Devon) with four children. It would appear the marriage probably occurred about 1838 or 1839 and there is certainly a potential marriage for Richard Banfield in 1839 in FreeBMD. I suspect this Richard is the one baptised at Lelant in 1813. So the earlier Richard (1806) I would suggest died young and therefore would not be the one who married Mary Bray. However, the more detail you can supply for those mentioned in your first posting the more chance I will have of identifying everyone for you. CT

Elizabeth cannot be found in the 1861 Census which suggests she died before then.
I suspect one of the following will be her:-
Elizabeth BANFIELD March Qtr 1853 Redruth R.D. Volume 5c Page 201
Elizabeth BAMFIELD March Qtr 1853 Redruth R.D. Volume 5c Page 226

Hi Sandy - nice to hear from you again and thankyou for the update. On reading earlier posts I note that you originally had 1860 for the death of Richard but this new information suggest that we should be able to find both Richard and Elizabeth in the 1861 Census. Guess I will have to start searching again once I have had a few hours sleep! CT

Decided to have a look at the 1861 Census before getting that sleep. No matter how I search there is no way that I can find Richard and/or Elziabeth Banfield (var.) in the 1861 Census. I have even tried a search just for Richard living at Redruth! (No further search information included) CT

Hi Sandy
I am wondering if there is some confusion re Richard & Elizabeth Banfields here....
Given Richard Banfield of Lelant + wife Elizabeth Bonnamy of Devon were born in the 1870s and were in their 70s in the 1851 census, they would have been doing well to both be alive in the 1861 census, both in their 80s, for there then to be a death of Richard in 1862 and a will naming his wife Elizabeth.
This 80+ year old pair are not apparent in the 1861 census as CT has already said.
But they had had a son Richard in 1813, who also married an Elizabeth from Devon.....
In 1851 this younger Richard & Elizabeth Bamfield pair are 37 & 30 @ Cross Street Redruth with 4 children, as mentioned previously in this thread.
In 1861 this younger Richard & Elizabeth Bamfield pair are 44(!) & 40 @ Treskerby Gwennap with 5 of their children.
I'd be a-thinking that the will you've found of 1862 might be for Richard Bamfield this latter pair, he baptized Lelant 1813...?
Which would leave the previously mentioned 1860 & 1853 deaths as probables for Richard Banfield b1775 & wife Elizabeth Bonnamy.

Thanks Sue - that looks a much more likely scenario. But we really need some burial information to be certain and unfortunately neither Gwennap nor Redruth is currently covered with available information. I had considered the son also but I do not have his marriage recorded in my database and was too tired at the time to try and pursue it. Guess I will have to rectify that little anomaly and get the information updated! CT

The younger Richard Bamfield with his wife Elizabeth and daughter Elizabeth can be found at Redruth in 1841 but transcribed as BARNFIELD. I have submitted a correction to this and it should soon be found as BAMFIELD. Daughter Elizabeth was age 1 so we are certainly looking at the 1839 marriage I alluded to in an earlier post on this subject. The name of his wife is Elizabeth Goldsworht OR possibly Elizabeth Martin. And it would appear that the latter must be the favourite. According to the 1851 Census Elizabeth was born at Ashburton, Devon around 1820 or 1821 and although Devon does not have the same coverage as Cornwall when it comes to Parish Register transcriptions or other availability it does seem that we might be in luck. I can find no suitable Elizabeth Goldsworthy but I could find the following in FamilySearch:- Elizabeth daughter of Anthony and Joanna MARTIN baptised 14th March 1821 Ashburton, Devon, England CT

Following from my last - I think it is reasonably safe now to say that Richard Bamfield the younger married Elizabeth Martin in the Redruth Registration District in 1839.
Elizabeth d/o Anthony and Joanna Martin baptised at Ashburton, Devon 14th March 1821 as previously posted.
There were two other daughters baptised in Devon:-
Joanna d/o Anthony and Joanna bp. 28th October 1819 Ashburton (born 14th November 1818)
Ann d/o Anthony and Joanna bp. 15th April 1810 Ashburton
In the 1841 Census Anthony and Joanna Martin, along with daughter Ann, were living at Redruth only a few doors from Richard and Elizabeth Bamfield.
The 1841 Census also shows that Anthony Martin was born in Cornwall prior to 1781.

A note of CAUTION for those using FamilySearch - do NOT neglect IGI!!
I could not find a marriage for Anthony Martin in FamilySearch which I thought was maybe a little strange given all three children that I have found were baptised at Ashburton and the eldest was baptised in 1810.
I have now looked at the old IGI and:-
Anthony Martin married Joanna Livermore 12th May 1799 at Ashburton, Devon
From the information I have gathered so far from the Census and other records this must be Anthony:-
Anthony son of Anthony and Mary Martin bp. 3rd February 1777 Redruth, Cornwall
The 1841 Census indicated that Joanna was age 55 and so born sometime between 1781 and 1786. The only possible baptism I can find is this one:-
Johanna daughter of Nathaniel and Susanna Livermore bp. 28th January 1781 Ashburton, Devon
