Hi there.....I joined this site last year and even tho I thought I was pretty computer savy, and find this site impossible to navigate. The only way I was able to get to where I wanted last year was via a thread i had been given. (It doesnt seem to work now) I am back in the genealogy mode again and I logged in and hit SEARCH. Typed in the work "quick" - NO RESULTS so i tried unchecking all the boxes and left a tick in the QUICK area but NO RESULTS. I just want to get to the bit and read all the questions an answers on the QUICK families...Can you plse help me??? Many thanks in antipation Teresa

Welcome back Teresa! Fortunately we have a lot of discussion on the Quick family. On the Homepage just scroll down to 'Surnames of General Interest'. Under that heading you will find a dedicated forum for the Quick family where you should find everything you are looking for. CT

Hi - I too have had problems navigating the site. For example: how to respond to a specific post on a board? Also, on one page Penwith Genealogy :: The Parishes :: Crowan Connections :: Hocking Family 0f Crowan @ Breage (http://azazella.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=crowan&action=display&thread=1760&page=1) there is no reply mechanism.
But on page 2 there is a reply button (http://azazella.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=crowan&action=display&thread=1760&page=2)
and at the top of the page it says I have 0 messages and 0 new messages which is not the case unless it's referring to personal messages?
How does the Quick reply feature work? It seems that's a separate thing entirely!
Yikes, am I just a complete dope??

There is a 'Reply' button on every page - but not at the end of each individual post.
In the case of Crowan click on the Crowan Parish link and then click on the Thread you wish to view. (In this case Hocking)
If you click on the Thread title it should take you immediately to the first page.
But if there are multiple pages they will be listed as page 1,2, etc.
Just click on the number of the page you want.
Now - at the very top of the postings is a darker coloured bar with about three options on the right. The first of these should be 'Reply'.
Likewise - at the end of the very last post on that particular page is a similar Bar with the options to the right and once again the first one is 'Reply'.
In either case just click on the Reply button.
You can copy and paste information or use the Quote functions if you wish.
The 'New Messages' relates to PMs only (Private Messages).

I think the trouble is when you have community based input, things will often end up in the wrong place, or two places, and are not always headed up clearly so you can work out what the topic is about. It's been awhile since I have participated in a forum, but many of the features are fairly standard, it's often the way that content or threads need to be cleaned up, reorganised, and of course when things get moved it causes confusion. I have yet to have a full look at the site (there have been network issues, so keep having to come back later), but is there a FAQ section?

There is FAQ section as such but there are one or two areas available for help and queries and for non-genealogy talk. Chy-an-coweth is one place where this can happen for example. As for 'tidying up' - I have tried many times to get people to choose carefully where they want to post a topic. Sometimes it works and sometimes not but then there is the problem of new topics being 'spawned' from existing ones which often means multiple conversations happening in the same thread. Every now and then, as I have time, I try to clean up some of the threads and move posts to more appropriate areas but a lot of the damage was done several years back when I was more or less administering the site but had not been allocated administrator privileges. Nobody's fault really as things happened that were out of the control of individuals. ........ it's called 'Life'. We also have difficulties with people joining the forum, creating a new thread and then after a few posts simply disappearing. The thread then lies inactive for lengthy periods before someone comes along and decides to add to it. As has just been pointed out this forum is like many others which often suffer similar issues. It really is an awkward and often difficult task to try and keep on top of every conversation in every thread so it really is up to each individual to help add some sort of control. Even administrators have other things to do and in my case that involves being a volunteer firefighter. Only three days ago we had a large bushfire start just 7kms from home and that fire is still not officially 'under control' having travelled in the vicinity of 20kms and covered over 10,000 hectares. If everyone could do their bit we might be able to control and then eliminate at least some of the confusion. CT
