Could anyone tell me what a 'Knight of the Chamber' is, and what did he do? I came across a possible ancestor with this title and was unsure what it meant.

Thank you for the information. As I understand it, there were three types of 'Knights'. Nobility, Military and Landholders. I will read all the information.

To my knowledge a Knight of the Chamber was a Knighthood created in peacetime, a bachelor knighted in the presence of the King or Queen's chamber.
