Edward HAMPTON and his wife Elizabeth A [_____] were in Illogan from approximately 1876 to 1881.
I believe their children to be: Jane c 1872 Helston Frederick c 1876 Illogan William c 1880 Illogan Thomas J c 1881 Illogan Anne c 1884 Truro Idlass Albert c 1889 Gwennap
This is a side branch for me, as I am descended from Edward's sister Susan who married Thomas BRAY.

Will be interested to see where these fit in. I know there were some Hamptons in Illogan very early on, but never determined if they tied in with the St. Erth branch. These ones, being later, could come in from either place. The nice thing about the name Hampton is that, since it is not Cornish, there were not too many of them in Cornwall, which makes it easier to research!

We can trace the Lelant Hamptons back to the mid 1500s - no way of knowing how long they resided in Cornwall prior to that, but as Hampton is an English name, and is a 'locational' type surname it means they would have originally come from some village called "Hampton" somewhere in England. I don't know how many places there are in England called Hampton, but I imagine there are quite a few. I've never been able to determine if Hampton is Saxon for "Home Town" or for "Ham's Town" (Ham being an old Saxon personal name). Could be either.

Thanks Roadrunner - having recently spent quite some time sorting out the Trevarthen side of this I should have realised!
