Hmm, yes. Leighton Buzzard District is some 25 miles west of Royston, so possible; on that basis the death record for an Ann Quick in Winslow (Dec 1856) is only a few miles further west – looks like the neighbouring parish. And we do have 2 missing Ann Quicks post 1851 census, mother & daughter. The bad news is that 1851 census has an Ann Quick living in Winslow, and 2 living in Leighton Buzzard; by 1861 there is no longer a Winslow Ann Quick; and there is only one Leighton Buzzard Ann Quick left. (And the districts are in Buckinghamshire & Bedfordshire, whose county records/archive offices I haven't yet looked up.) And head of household James? Where be he? But nil desperandum. The answers are out there – somewhere. And it will rain sometime soon. Sue

The answers are definitely there - Somewhere!!! It might be worth doing a little work on those three you mentioned to see if they can be identified. I certainly don't want to get involved with all the Quicks of England as most of them have no connection back to Cornwall and certainly not West Penwith. Well - if there is any connection with any of them it is way back before we have been able to go. But a little work might help clear the way for us to see 'our' Ann. CT

Sue - could you elaborate a little on the Ann Quicks you found in the 1851 and 1861 Census please.
Apart from Ann and James (with daughter Ann) at Bassingbourn I can only find an Ann Quick age 66 living at Linslade, Bucks.
In 1861 there is Ann d/o Samuel and Mary Quick at Linslade age 21 or Ann age 53 (born MDX) who is a servant at Upton with Chalvey, Bucks.

In 1851 I found (FMP) the following Ann Quicks within 30 miles of Bassingbourn/Royston: Household QUICK, Ann 1785 66 F Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire Household QUICK, Ann 1840 11 F Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire Household QUICK, Ann 1796 55 F Luton Bedfordshire Institution QUICK, Anne 1844 7 F Royston Hertfordshire Institution QUICK, Ann 1811 40 F Royston Hertfordshire Household QUICK, Ann 1808 43 F Winslow Buckinghamshire
In 1861 I found only these: Household QUICK, Ann 1809 52 F Eton Buckinghamshire Household QUICK, Ann 1840 21 F Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire
Although I did note an Anne Quick age 17 as a servant in London; birthplace “........Devon”; Household QUICK, Anne 1844 17 F Marylebone London, Middlesex
but I would expect that to be the one previously in Torrington age 7 in 1851 - Household QUICK, Ann 1844 7 F Torrington Devonshire
