I understand that 97 year old Benedict Quick was buried at Daylesford Cemetery in Victoria on 23rd May 1917. I also noted another burial in that cemetery for Mary H. Quick in 1895.
I am guessing that this is Benedict, son of Benedict Quick and Kitty Richards and Mary is his wife, married in 1852, being Mary Wallis.
I was wondering if you have access to the appropriate shipping records that include the arrival of this couple to Oz?

Lannanta - you have the right connections there. Now it took some doing but I have managed to track down the information you want. Finding Benedict senior was easy but finding young Benedict and Mary was a bit of a problem. However I have found them and will send copies via email. Briefly:- Benedict senior and son John arrived in Melbourne aboard the 'Miles Barton' in July 1854. Benedict gave his age as 56 but John was recorded as 13 probably to get a cheaper fare. Benedict and Mary left within a couple of months of their marriage. They sailed aboard the barque 'Sea Park' which sailed from London 29th July 1852 and Plymouth 24th August 1852 arriving at Port Adelaide 10th December 1852. (Found on 'The Ships List') They possibly made their way overland to Victoria as I have not been able to find any record of them arriving by sea. CT

Hi I have just joined this forum. Very interested to see the remarks regarding Benedict Quick. Did he travel over with his son in law George Richards married to Jane Quick? Their grandson William Price Richards imigrated to NZ about 1904 he is my grandfather, so I am interested in any information of this part of the family.

Hello Penny
I do not have very much information on the descendants of George Richards, other than a list of five children - George, Benedict, Jane, Sarah and William.
I do know that William was baptised on 9th August 1854 at the St Ives Primitive Methodist Chapel which suggests that the family did not travel with Benedict and John.
Kind regards
Lannanta

Hi Lannanta
I do have that information, there was a Geo Richards on the same ship but age slightly different.
Do you know where and when Benedict senior died, I had presumed he had gone to Australia but had not been able to verify it. Thank you for that information. Also I have the date of Kitty and Benedict wedding on 13 Aug 1817 in St Ives do you have a copy of the certificate because I want to confirm Kitty's parents. Do you have much information on the Quick family. I have done quite a lot of research but it would be good to be able to confirm that I have it correct.
I live in Wellington, New Zealand are you Australia?
Thank you again Kind regards
Penny

Hi Penny
I do not have a site for Daylesford but CT who is the Quick expert on this forum well have a link - my information comes from ancestry.co.uk.
If you look at my signature you will see that I claim to be from Canterbury Crusader country, just a few hundred miles south from windy ...... well you know ;D
I do not yet have the parents for Kitty but there will be some clues in the naming of Kittys' children I would guess - William Richards Q, Sarah Richards Q, John Richards Q, and Thomas Richards Quick. There is a possibility that Kitty is not from St Ives so there may be a bit of work to do to find her - Kitty most likely short for Christian.

Hi Leenika
If you mean:
Jane Quick Richards, and she is 18 at her marrriage, then this is the same family as Jane Quick Richards was born in 1850, the daughter of George Richards and Jane Quick.

Hello Lannanta,
Yes thats pretty much what I mean, sorry. I have just started looking into the James side of our family and don't have any other info apart from the marriage certificate for either side. If you could point me in the right direction or any other info, it would be much appreciated
Thank you

Hi Leenika
Just at hand I only have the ancestry of Jane Quick Richards, and I am sure that even that is incomplete.
As you know she was the daughter of George Richards and Jane Quick - and she had at least four siblings - George Richards, Benedict Quick Richards, Sarah Richards and William Quick Richards. Given that George is the oldest of these five, and that he was born around 1846, and the parents married about 1841, it is highly likely there were more children.
Jane Quick was the daughter of Benedict Quick and Kitty Richards, and she was one of at least 8 children, being baptised in St Ives on the 19th April 1818. At this stage I do not know who were the parents of Kitty Richards.
However Benedict was the son of Benedict Quick and Jane Stevens and the younger Benedict was one of 9 children. And so it goes on back through 5 or 6 generations to Thomas and Zenobia Quick at Towednack in the early to mid 1600s.

Hello Penny and Leenika and welcome to Penwith Genealogy. Daylesford Cemetery - I do not know of anything available online however here is a link where you will find a contact willing to do lookups. www.australiancemeteries.com/vic/hepburn/daylesford.htmKitty Richards - I don't have enough information at the moment however it is very likely that she is the following:- Catherine d/o William and Sarah Richards bp. 2nd February 1795 St Ives Not necessarily Lannanta - you forget Catherine! My father's aunt was Catherine Ann Trewhella but always known as 'Aunty Kit'. Catherine and Kitty are interchangeable and, as Lannanta said, there may be some hints in the names of her children. Whilst I think this is probably the correct link there was aslo:- Kitty d/o Sidney and Mary Richards bp. 19th August 1794 at St Ives With only a few months separating these baptisms even knowing Kitty's age when she died might not give us a conclusive answer. However with favouritism going to William and Sarah then the marriage is:- William Richards married Sarah Nance 4th August 1786 at St Ives Prior to Civil Registration it was not usual to find the names of parents recorded in the Marriage Registers although it did happen on occasions. The one thing that might help would be the names of any witnesses at the marriage although I could not guarantee it. Leenika - if you could post the complete details from the marriage certificate it would be easier to be able to help you out. George Richards and Jane Quick were married 9th December 1841 at St Ives George was born at St Ives about 1821 or 1822 and according to the marriage record his father was Thomas Richards. From the St Ives Wesleyan Chapel records:- George son of Thomas Richards of St Ives and Ann his wife, who was the daughter of William and Mary Warren was born 13th June 1822 and baptised 30th June 1822 by John Smith CT

George Richards moved to Australia before his wife Jane. Jane moved with Benedict, Jane, and William in Feb 1864 on the Pride of the Ocean. Both George's had emigrated earlier but I have been unable to confirm when. Jane died in Feb 1870 at Durham Lead, Victoria. I have been unable to find the website for this cemetery. George Senior then remarried to Charlotte Richards also from Cornwall who had earlier been married to Matthew Ellis. George died on 18 Nov 1894 and is buried at Ballarat. George Richards married Maria Jane Price. Their only surviving son William Price moved to NZ and had 7 children, my Father Edward the youngest born in 1927.
Kitty's maiden name was Richards - I think she was Katherine Richards daughter of William Richards and Sarah Nance, but I have so far been unable to locate the actual marriage certificate so that I can check these are her parents. married 18 Aug 1817 at St Ives.
Kitty and Benedict's children were Benedict, William Richard, Jane, James, Sarah Richards, Thomas Richards, and John Richards (all Quick).
