Henry TREVELA married Jane GRENFELL 4th June 1803 at St Just
Apart from his first child the names TREWHELLA, TREWHELA or TREWHEELA were most commonly used by this family from 1804 onwards.
The problem has always been with the identification of Henry and 30 years research has failed to answer this question.
I have, however, been able to arrive at a scenario that is promising if nothing else.
With no possible baptism ever found and no reference to Henry in any Wills or other documents of the Trewhella family I have long considered the probability of Henry having been illegitimate.
To the scenario which is going to require input from the WARREN researchers among us.
Henry Trewhella was buried at Madron 19th March 1847 at the age of 66.
In the 1841 Census (where the age of adults is usually rounded down to the nearest 5) henry gave his age as 63.
A birthdate of 1778-1780 is therefore the most probable and St Just seems the most likely place to look for Henry.
A search of IGI looking for a 'Henry' born at St Just between 1775 and 1785 produces only one likely result.
Henry WARREN son of Thomas and Eliz. bp. 2nd November 1778
The only other child I can find at St Just for Thomas and Elizabeth Warren is a James baptised 2nd November 1767.
Also baptised 2nd November 1767 was Mary d/o Thomas and Elizabeth WEARNE
A search of marriages shows that Thomas WEARNE married Elizabeth EDDY 20th September 1766 at St Just so we are apparently looking for another Thomas and Elizabeth.
But I cannot find a marriage for a Thomas WARREN to an Elizabeth anywhere that might even remotely fit with the 1767 or the 1778 baptism.
In 1783 at St Just a Thomas WEARN married Elizabeth MASON but this is too late and there are several children baptised to them at St Just.
Adding to the mystery is the following entry at St Just:-
ELIZABETH d/o John and Jane TREVEELA bp. 5th April 1745
Is this perhaps the mother of Henry TREVELA and was Thomas WARREN the father?
And was the baptism of James in 1767 a product of the same couple?
I really do need the WARREN researchers to help me out on this one.
If there actually was a marriage for Thomas Warren and Elizabeth that can prove my scenario incorrect then I will welcome the information.
But if there is no such marriage then any further information that might help me prove whether or not these were the parents of Henry TREVELA would be doubly welcome!
The Scenario as it looks:-
John TREVEELA m. Jane ?
Elizabeth bp. 5th April 1745 St Just
(a liaison with Thomas WARREN)
Henry (TREVELA??) son of Thomas and Eliza. WARREN bp. 2nd November 1778 St Just
Henry TREVELA married Jane GRENFELL 4th June 1803 St Just
All help and information appreciated to finally crack the case of Henry Trevela.
