I think now that I can say with some degree of safety and assuredness that the identity of the murdered William TREWELLA is now KNOWN! Searching around for information on other lines tonight and joined Footnote.com on the Free Only list. (i.e. no payments so not able to access some of the Premium stuff) A search on 'trewella' produced 93 matches and, as one does, I casually began checking through them until one with a date of 1902 caught my eye. This is from a San Francisco Directory, 1902. You can use the 'Quick Look' function to see a small section of the page where the name is highlighted:- HOTEL FRANKLIN Mrs W. M. Trewella, propr. A.T. etc. Given the year of publication is 1902 and a Mrs Trewella is the proprietor of a Hotel then this is the widow of our murder victim. (Known from other documented data.) W M Trewella is William Moor Trewella!!! ;D (And he was my leading suspect, too!) Another problem solved.

according the family of Nicholas Trewheler (1843-1914)
you supposed (or know) Nicholas had together with Sarah Jane Hughes a daughter Elizabeth, who married Paul von Weymarn (1882 - 1975), a Russian officier and Magister of geology.
in our genealogy they married on Aug 2nd, 1908 and she was written "Trouveller", her father Nikolai, what is the same in Russian language than Nicholas
From a list of schoolgirls in Reval(Tallinn) of the Howen-School Elizabeth was born 1886, March 22nd she visited that school from August 1900 to May 1901
You are writing you have a Certificate of the marriage. For our documents of family's history I would like to have a copy of this Certificate. Are you able to mail a copy? It would be very graceful.
Her son Georg, born 1913 (where, when??) lived in Sweden , married there and died 1991 but I have a second son Nicholai/Nicholas, born 1916 - with any other information.
Best regards glueckshaus

Helo Glueckshaus and welcome to this site. Yes - I have a copy of the Marriage Certificate of Elizabeth to Paul von Veymarn and I will be happy to send you a copy. I also have the Marriage Certificate for her brother Anatole and also the Death Certificate for their Grandfather Richard who died in 1914. If you can tell me your email address I can scan them and send them to you. If you wish to keep your email address private then you can send it to me by Personal Message from this page. On the left of the message below my Avatar (the terrier) you will see two icons. One is for my email and the other is for Personal Message. Perhaps my email would be best because I would then be able to reply directly to you. Just click on the icon to open the email. I hope we can discuss your family some more. CT

Anaconda (MT) Standard, 21 April 1901:
"San Francisco, April 20. - Robert E. Glaze, who shot and killed his business partner William Trewhella, was convicted today of murder in the first degree. The jury recommended a sentence of life imprisonment. Glase and Trewhella were running a hotel and quarreled about business matters. Glase is a former resident of The Dalles, Oregon."

Thankyou again Zenobia.
Seems Mr Glaze had earlier problems too. From memory there was something to do with Honolulu involved.
He had at least one unsuccessful attempt at getting a retrial or getting himself aquitted and died in prison.
I cannot remember the year of his death but it was not too many years after his sentence began.

Would you like the article from the Honolulu paper? I did run across it, but was in a hurry at the time.

Thanks Zenobia.
I have an idea that I did get a copy but it might be as well if you have the time to locate it again.
I joined Footnote, Genealogybank and another Newspaper site on one-month subscriptions to try and find all the articles I could where Trewhella (var.) were mentioned.
I found more about the Connecticutt Trewhellas this way and also found further information on a couple of other sites that I virtually stumbled across.

You may have seen the account in the San Francisco Call, easily accessible by a search. There is a description of the disagreement leading to the murder, and Alfred Kendall is identified as stepson of Trewhella.

Thanks Calswimmer.
I downloaded every article I could find about this event and from a few different newspapers.
Have not had time to settle down and read them all properly as yet but I believe the one you mention is amongst them.
Actually found another murder victim while I was searching those newspapers as well as a few suicides.
