Hello Lynie and welcome to Penwith Genealogy.
Let's see what I can do to start you off.
Edwin PENBERTHY married Jennifer SEMMENS at Ludgvan 6th November 1820
Children baptised at Ludgvan as follows:-
Jane bp. 4th February 1821
Edwin bp. 23rd March 1823
Edwin bp. 28th January 1827
Elizabeth Hoskin bp. 30th August 1829
John Semmens bp. 29th May 1832
James Henry bp. 27th December 1835
James Henry bp. 23rd June 1837
Cecilia d/o Henry and Bridget (or Biddy) Banfield was baptised at Ludgvan 21st December 1828
Other children of Henry and Biddy baptised at Ludgvan:-
Biddy Oats Banfield bp. 28th January 1827
Mary Ann Banfield bp. 18th January 1831
Sedwell Oats Banfield bp. 4th November 1832
Jane Oats Banfield bp. 9th November 1834
Henry Banfield bp. 13th March 1836
Nicholas Oats Banfield bp. 11th July 1838
I cannot be absolutely certain of this but it does appear that Henry Banfield was previously married.
Henry BANFIELD married Jennifer RAPSON at Ludgvan 27th October 1822
James s/o Henry and Jennifer Banfield bp. 16th February 1823 at Ludgvan
Henry BANFIELD married Bridget Thomas OATES at Lelant 9th September 1826
Bridget Thomas OATES d/o Nicholas and Bridget was baptised at Camborne 2nd September 1804
From the 1851 Census it appears Bridget was deceased and I think it is probably her death recorded in FreeBMD in the June Qtr of 1845.
It also appears that daughter Bridget Oats Banfield may have died young as Henry has a daughter Bridget with him in 1851 who was born about 1842.
Henry was age 55 in 1851 and gave his birtplace as Ludgvan so he may be the following:-
Henry BAMFIELD s/o James and Celia bp. 15th October 1797 at Ludgvan
I cannot find Edwin Penberthy in 1851 and I would suggest it is he whose death is recorded in FreeBMD in the March Qtr of 1846.
In the 1841 Census Edwin was age 40 which means he was probably born sometime between 1797 and 1801.
I suspect he is the following:-
Edwin s/o James and Jane PENBERTHY bp. 23rd August 1799 at Lelant
James PENBERTHY, tinner married Jane DAVEY 3rd May 1785 at Lelant by Licence
Children:-
Elizabeth bp. 27th December 1789 Lelant
Ann bp. 29th June 1792 Lelant
John bp. 14th June 1795 Lelant
James bp. 15th July 1797 Lelant
Edwin bp. 23rd August 1799 Lelant
Josiah bp. 8th October 1801 Lelant
Given the gap between the marriage and the first child above I suspect this following child may also belong.
Jane d/o James and Jane PENBERTHEY bp. 19th June 1785 Gwithian
This is the only baptism of a child for James and Jane Penberthy at Gwithian so I think there can be little doubt.
I hope that gives you something to work with?
Have a play around with that and see how things shape up with anything you already know.
Then just let us know how you are going and what your next hurdle might be and we will try and help you over it.
I think you will have some fun with the Penberthy and the Banfield families and you will find that it is not all plain sailing I am afraid.
But we are here to help so keep involved and become one of the team.
