Hello everyone,
Could someone point me in the right direction of websites that would help with researching a branch of my family who emigrated to NSW, Australia. Also interested in how to obtain BMD certificates and if there is a way to view Australian census records online.
Many thanks! Carole

Hello Carole - Here is the link for NSW BDM Indexes. www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/searchHistoricalRecords.htmIt is pretty much self-explanatory and you need to search the Historical Indexes. On the left you will find links to find how to obtain Certificates etc. The only Census records that might possibly be available will be some very early records back around 1828 (from memory). As far as I am aware there is no other Australian Census record that has or will be released to the public and I believe they would be of little use to family historians anyway. If you can give me some details of who came to Australia and approximately when then I might be able to track down some useful links for you. CT

When you find them you'll need some transport to move over there. I used iversta.com/ when I was in Toronto. I hope it can be hopeful.

Every state has birth deaths marriages offices. You can contact them ,some ste searchable online except south Australia but they only go to certain years due to privacy laws.
Facebook genealogy pages and groups can also be useful as some of their members may hold CDs with information you want that are only available by ordering the CDs. And they'll do look up for you & searches and if you have an idea where your ancestor may if died you can ask someone to take pictures for you or use billion graves or find s grave
other useful resources include trove if you go to that website it'll have the different categories and records and you can find old newspaper articles etc as well. Nla=national library of Australia -naturalisation records etc
Ancestry contains alot if Australian records
You can also contact the cemeteries directly
Some mining towns were created around the mining industry if looking for mining families and may be ghost towns or renamed again fbook groups are best to ask as there are many knowledgeable folks and they'r are pages like..lost graves /lost pics/my family came to Australia for eg Facebook groups.
You'd be surprised what turns up in op shops too icky ding pictures and family bibles.-it's happened!.
Shipslist is good for passenger records
Look at Google to find out if the town etc you're researching had a newspaper
Look also at state libraries. Nla will have naturalisation records too
Also look via Google or you can ask on one of fb genealogy pages for/about if there are any family research/genealogy groups in that area you're researching As they may know where to get records for that area including rate books for eg.
Hope that helps a bit 😁
