Going to take my mind of Frank for a little while. ('archenemy Frank' as JudyLynn has dubbed him! )
I need to consider Joseph for a while.
JudyLynn mentioned that we might find him in Pennsylvania in 1890 - and she was right:-
Mahoney City Census Directory 1890
Frewella, Jos., 43, hotel. 140 E. Centre St. Margaret, Josephine
(Perhaps a much closer look at this several weeks ago might have saved some pain considering other members of the household - MARGARET )
And for ease of reference here also is Matthew from the same Directory:-
Trewella, Matthew, 48, hotel. Water St. Amelia A., Matthew H. 28, Frank 14, slate
picker, Elizabeth, Ellen, Mamie J.
So - were Joseph and Matthew involved in two separate Hotels? or just the one with the addresses being residential?
Perhaps something that can be looked at a little later on.
There is a large gap during which Joseph has not yet been found so plotting his 'known' movements might help to locate him.
In 1861
Joseph and brother Matthew (along with wife Eliza Jane) were living at Illogan, Cornwall with parents Matthew and Sally.
Joseph married Elizabeth CURNOW at Meriden, CT in 1867
In 1870
* Joseph and Elizabeth have not yet been found!!
* Matthew and Eliza are in Vermont with their children and with
* Elder brother John is also in Vermont with his brother Matthew
* John's wife Jemima is back in Cornwall with their two children
In 1880
* Joseph is a boarder at Cumru Twp, Berks, PA
* Elizabeth is living on her own at Randolph Twp, Morris, NJ
* Matthew and Eliza are at Jefferson Twp, Morris, NJ
* John and Jemima are at Houghton Twp, Keweenaw, MI
In 1890
* Joseph is in Mahanoy City, PA at Centre St. with wife Margaret
* Matthew is in Mahanoy City, PA at St.
* John died in 1889
Where were Joseph and Elizabeth in 1870?
Elizabeth's brother, Matthew CURNOW, married Ann TREWHELLA at Cheshire, CT in 1863 (The Connecticut Trewhella family)
Of three known children of Matthew and Ann Census records tell us that Wiliam (1865) and Annie (1872) were born in Newfoundland whilst Eugenie (1876) was born in Nevada.
So could Joseph and Elizabeth have also been in Newfoundland/Canada around the time of the 1870 Census?
The next time they appear is in 1880 when they are enumerated in different States.
We know that Elizabeth died sometime in the next eight years because when Joseph married Margaret SHARP in May of 1888 he stated that his 'previous wife died'.
The question is - did she die in New Jersey where she was living in 1880 or did she die in Pennsylvania where Joseph remarried in 1888?
A little more investigating to see if I might narrow this down a little more.
