Well he is clearly a brother to the John on the other side of him, and that is the only relationship I can see that fits.

With respect to Israel Quick and Jane nee Smith.
This was an entry I found which points to Jane Smith being somebody else, or perhaps Mrs Roberts. I thought it may put a different slant on your search in the Aussie records?

I do not have the record to prove the assertion that James Earl Quick, born 20 Dec 1876 in Grass Valley was the son of James Quick and Jane Carter Gill - but it makes sense.

How about this:-
Mary Quick ROBERTS born 1861 Ballarat (Reg. No. 13341) Father - Ambrose ROBERTS Mother - Jane SEMMENS
Ambrose ROBERTS married Jane SEMMENS March Qtr 1851 Vol 9 Page 233 Penzance R.D.
Thomas Oxley ROBERTS born 1858 Ballarat (Reg. No. 1870 Father - Ambrose ROBERTS Mother - Jane SIMMENS
I can not find George in Victoria but have a couple of other things to look at.
Whatever I find will be posted in a following note.
BTW - there was an Ambrose Roberts, age 50, died at Creswick but that was not until 1881.
And I cannot find a death record for Thomas Oxley Roberts in Victoria.

I still cannot find a birth for George and cannot find Ambrose and Jane arriving in Victoria. Also cannot find Israel and Jane leaving Victoria however I have found Jane in the 1900 Census still living at Grass Valley, Nevada Co., California. She was widowed by this time and living alone. But there is one interesting entry in this Census record. Jane claimed to have immigrated to the US in 1881!! She also stated she was the mother of six children with two of those still living. CT

Mary (Minnie) Quick married a Mr Green at some stage. She was born on the 24th June 1861 in Australia and on her death certificate she stated that her mother was Jane Simmons. Minnie died in 1935 at Reno in Nevada.

Jane's second daughter Emma Jane (Mrs Wells) had also died earlier - in 1894 - so it sort of makes sense that she was down to only two children.

In the 1910 census she changed her mind, perhaps helped by the fact that she was living with her daughter Minnie Green. Here she states that she arrived in 1870 and was the mother of 5 children, two of whom were still alive - one of them being Minnie of course.

And I just realised why I cannot find George Quick! Reading back through your earlier posts you made mention of the fact that he was 'George Quick aka Thomas O Roberts'. So he was born Thomas Oxley Roberts at Ballarat in 1858. Armed with your latest I will see if there is anything else I can find. Darned if I can find them entering the US or Australia at the moment. And it is curious that I cannot find the marriage to Israel given daughter Emma was born in 1867 at Ballarat.

The 1900 US Census makes for interesting reading! Grass Valley Twp, Nevada Co., California Henry GREEN, head, white, male, born July 1852, 47, born England Minnie B do., wife, born June 1861, 38, born Australia Olive B do., daur., born April 1884, 16, born AUSTRALIA George B do., son, born April 1885, 15, born AUSTRALIA Frederick do., son, born August 1893, 6, born California Henry states that he emigrated to the US in 1873 and had been in the US for 21 years. Minnie states she emigrated in 1870 and had been in the US for 24 years. Olive and George are shown as emigrating in 1889 with 11 years spent in the US. Frederick was born in California. Now do some maths! Henry and Minnie are recorded as having been married for 17 years so were married about 1883. Minnie was the mother of seven children with three still living. Have you done your maths? If you arrive at a discrepancy of six when you work out years of immigration compared with years of residence then go to the top of the class! It is obvious, especially with two children recorded as born in Australia, that Henry and Minnie spent about six years back in Australia before returning, apparently permanently, to the US. The question is - did they marry in the US and then go to Australia almost immediately afterwards or were they married in Australia? Olive B GREEN d/o Henry and Minnie B was born at Orange, NSW in 1884 (Reg. No. 30084) George H GREEN s/o Henry and Minnie B was born at Lithgow, NSW in 1885 (Reg. No. 21836) Archibald L GREEN s/o Henry and Minnie was born at Lithgow, NSW in 1887 (Reg. No. 23184) Victor I GREEN s/o Henry and Minnie B was born at Orange, NSW in 1889 (Reg. No. 32401) No sign of a marriage for Henry and Minnie in NSW so must presume that they married in California. I cannot find there arrival as yet but Indexes for the 1880s and onwards are still in progress. Anyway, have found two more of the missing kids but no sign of a death for them so they must have at least got part of the way back to California!

Nothing that I can prove at the moment. My notes show that James and Jane were married on 11 Nov 1875 at Grass Valley. However, Jane either died or was replaced as James remarried on the 4th February 1888 to Lillie Manhire and they had 2 or 3 children; Edward Israel, Paul and possibly another Paul.

In the 1930 census Minnie is a widow and is living with George H. Green, wife Mildred and family in California, along with her other son Frederick. It is interesting that some of George's children e.g. Leslie M. Green (aged 14) and Vivian M. Green (aged 8) were born in Australia indicating some more travel betwen the two countries.
Also interesting is that in 1920 Minnie could not answer any of the questions relating to time in the USA etc so I am guessing that her previous entries should be taken with caution.

Emma, daughter of Israel and Mary Rowe, married an Edmund Semmens of Ludgvan, in fact one of their children was called Israel James Quick Semmens. Might be a link there?
