The William Martin of Towednack 1816-1880 is a blood relative of mine descending from Richard 1734/Grace Uren, so I approached this subject from the opposite direction, so to speak, and have been in e-mail contact with some of the (living) relatives. William 1816 has a brother Christopher 1812 who m. Wilmot E Berriman. Mary Ann 1841 m. J H Berriman, son John Henry B. Mary Ann`s sibling Susan Ellen (there are two of them; one died young) m. William Dunston b1864 Lelant, grocer, daughter Flossie....and so on. The Williams and Veale families come into the picture. David

I was sure the MARTIN name would catch your eye David! Thankyou for the update on Christopher Martin and his wife. I can tell your more about Wilmot if you want it but will use email, PM or a more appropriate thread to do so. However I will offer one thing. Wilmot is believed to have been the mother of an illegitimate daughter - Rosetta BERRYMAN who was baptised at Towednack in 1831. Rosetta married Benjamin Tonkin SARTIN at Lelant in 1856 and, according to the 1881 Census, had at least three children. But I cannot find hide nor hair of Rosetta in 1841 or 1851 and cannot find this SARTIN family in any Census prior to 1881. In 1871 there is only one person of the name Sartin found in Cornwall! The OPC site shows the baptism of Christopher Berryman Sartin at Towednack 18th March 1872 when the family was of Brega. He was buried 27th March 1872 at Towednack. The burials also show another Christopher SARTIN buried soon before the above was baptised. This one was age 9 when he died so I just tried another search of the 1871 Census using 'Chris* born 1861-1864 and found them! - Christopher indexed as CHRISLOP SERTAN. Might now try to find them a bit earlier and see what happens. BTW - could you send me a little more detail on the marriages of Mary Ann and Susan Ellen please David. (Email or PM will do.) CT Just found a few of them in the OPC site with very strange interpretations of the surname - LERTWIN and SEXTIN for example!
