I am new to this board, but I am the "source" referenced in several posts in this thread and the owner of the database which is linked. It is probably old news by now, but to anyone who is still aboard and interested:
1. I have been researching the Eustis/Eustice/Eustace families of Cornwall for over 40 years. In the process I have obtained copies or abstracts of tons of documents and have spent years analyzing them and putting the families together. Whille that doesn't make my conclusions infallible, it does make me something of an expert on this particular family. Certainly way ahead of those who are just starting to research.
2. The info about a marriage between John Eustace and Catherine Thomas in Mar Qtr 1846 was a real bum steer. There was no such marriage. That marriage was John Eustace to Mary Ann Trevena. I have the actual marriage record in my possession. There happened to be another marriage recorded in the same book and page between a Catherine Thomas and some body else - but that was just an unlucky coincidence.
3. It is not all that unusual for older men to marry younger women - especially a second or third marriage - and thus have children when they are in their 50s or 60s or even older. My great grandfather was 58 years old when his youngest child was born. So there is no basis to scoff at the idea that Henry couldn't be John's father solely because he over 50. I have substantial enough documentation to conclude that John (1827) was indeed the son of Henry (1776). John's mother was a much younger second wife of Henry.
I am open to further discussion.
