According to my records I have 'Jehu' recorded only as 'John'.
I am not sure why that is but the initial information on the family came from my cousin in Truro.
John (Jehu) apparently left a Will which was proved at Madron 26th April 1710.
I may have an abstract of it amongst letters from Nancy but I would have to search.
However, John was 'of Trevean, Morvah' when he wrote his Will.
Also, when sons William (1678) and Jacob (1687) were baptised at Morvah they were recorded as 'of Maddern'.
I would suggest therefore that Madron might be the Parish to search for the burial.
The first record I can find of a 'Pollard' at Madron is the baptism of John son of John 16th August 1646.
I must stress here that I am using the CTRL+F function and the name may well have been spelt differently throughout the records.
The next reference is to Mary daughter of John Pollard baptised 10th August 1661 at Madron and this certainly suggests another John.
The earliest burial at Madron is that of James Pollard, gent. dated 7th September 1613.
It is interesting to note, though, that the name does not appear in the 1641 Protestation Return for Madron
And nor does it appear at Morvah.
Possibly helpful is this from 'A Handbook of Cornish Surnames'
POLLARD - From pol: pool + ?. Place name, Pollard, near Helston.
Following is a list of all Pollards found in the Protestation Return for Penwith Hundred:-
St Ives - Rich Pollard +
That is the sum total and makes for interesting reading! - or lack of!
AND - there are NONE at Helston!
With a placename of Pollard in Helston the next obvious Parishes to look at are Wendron and Sithney yet I can find no trace of the name in either in 1641.
The final place I looked was Breage but there are none there either.
So -
Looking at IGI I am finding the bulk of those in the 1600's are at places like Landrake (1598 onwards), Stratton, Kilkhampton, St Martin by Looe etc.
However the earliest I have yet found is:-
unnamed male son of Thomas POLLARD bp. 2nd March 1579 at Perranuthnoe
Thomas son of Thomas POLLARD bp. 5th September 1604 at Perranuthnoe
Richard son of Thomas POLLARD bp. 27th September 1609 at Perranuthnoe
Allexander son of Thomas POLLARD bp. 17th July 1562 at Perranuthnoe
Agnis daughter of Thomas POLLARD bp. 10th July 1580 at Perranuthnoe
Jennett daughter of Thomas POLLERD bp. 19th September 1582 at Perranuthnoe
Ann daughter of Richard POLLARD bp. 9th January 1651 at St Ives
(This one fits with the Protestation Return)
Ann daughter of Richard POLARD bp. 1st October 1678 at St Ives
There are others from these same families also but the suggestion may be that we need to look at Perranuthnoe for the origins of the family at Morvah and St Ives.
And perhaps this might be interesting:-
Prudence daughter of John and Alce POLLARD bp. 3rd October 1669 at St Buryan
Barshebath son of John and Alce POLLARD bp. 5th May 1673 at St Buryan
Jane daughter of John and Alce POLLARD bp. 24th September 1676 at St Buryan
Mary daughter of John POLLARD bp. 10th August 1661 at Madron
I have now glanced through 2600 IGI entries for Birth/Christening and it is only a very small percentage of the name recorded anywhere West of Redruth.
Those I have recorded above (with a couple of omissions) are basically the only Parishes involved in that pre-1700 period.
Maybe that could be something to work on.
CT
BTW - those few baptisms at St Buryan would seem to fit very nicely into the family of John POLLARD of Morvah.
But would need to check burials and also the 1710 Will of John to be sure of them.
PS - John POLLARD married Alce 23rd April 1670 at St Buryan
