Hi: I'm new but have been researching my Cornish roots on and off for several years. I have a great grandmother named Mary Hoskin who was born in Penzance in 1841. I've been able to trace her father's family back to St. Just and then to Sancreed, going all the way back to a marriage in 1576 in Sancreed. I'm lucky with Sancreed as the records are very good, go back a long way and are online at two different sites: west-penwith.org.uk/ sancreedopccornwall.tripod.com/Also, the first name of Gabriel tends to repeat in the family going back to 1640. Some of the names associated with my Hosken tree: Leathan - St. Just Rowe - St. Just and Sancreed Trewren - Sancreed possibly Nicholas - Sancreed Baynard - unknown Taylor - Sancreed Chirgwin - Sancreed Bodenor - Paul Willey/Willy - unknown

Did you not get my e-mail? I did a pedigree on my Trewren line from Ann Trewren back to Thomas Trewren the younger alias Michell. I noticed an interesting line on the Genuki cornish site for personal names about the father's first name being used as a surname back in earlier times. I'm wondering if that's where the alias Michell came from. Thomas Trewren the younger alias Michell was married three times, and some of his children were baptised with the surname Michell.

In case my e-mail got lost, here's my Trewren line from Ann Trewren to Thomas Trewren alias Michell:
Ann Trewren was baptised on 15 May 1694 in Sancreed. She married Matthew Rowe on 02 Nov 1713 in Sancreed. They had seven children, the third being Florence Rowe baptised March 8, 1717 in Sancreed. Florence married James Hosken on 20 Jun 1745 in Sancreed, thus tying into my Hosken line.
Ann Trewren's parents were Henry Trewren and Aves - It may Aves Nicholas of Sancreed but I haven't found the marriage yet which would have taken place around 1685. The only thing I found for the marriage on the IGI was a patron submission which gave the bride's name as Aves Nicholas, which I want to confirm.
Henry was baptised on 31 Oct 1654 in Sancreed, the son of Gabriel Trewren and Ann Lawrey. Gabriel and Ann were married on 25 May 1646 in Sancreed. They also had a daughter, Margery, b 25 Oct 1646 in Sancreed. Henry died in Sancreed in July 1698.
Gabriel was baptised on 24 Oct 1613 in Sancreed, the son of Francis Trewren alias Michell. The mother is unknown. Gabriel Trewren was buried in 1692 in Sancreed, date unknown.
Francis was baptised on 06 Oct 1584 in Sancreed, the son of Thomas Mychell by his second wife Jane. Thomas Trewren alias Myhell married Jane last name unknown on 25 Jun 1581 in Sancreed. He married for the third time to another Jane on January 29, 1603. He had a son by her named Walter who was baptised on March 23, 1608, according to the Gregorian calendar. Walter's baptism was as the son of Thomas Trewren the younger alias Michell.
If you're still with me, that's the Trewren part.
We do have a direct connection with the Taylor part. James Hosken and Jane Taylor's youngest son was another James, baptised on 12 Apr 1723 in Sancreed and who my Hosken line comes from.

Hello Carol, And welcome to the forum. I too have descendancy from James HOSKEN and Jane TAYLOR via their daughter Joan. I believe James and Jane married at St Buryan 5 August 1705. Joan HOSKEN married William JENKIN at Madron in 1745. I also have some Lethan connections in my family. Which Lethan's are in your ancestry? Good hunting, Mike

Hi:
Gabriel Hosken married Mary Leathan on 20 Oct 1787 in St. Just.
Mary was baptised on 01 Feb 1767 in St. Just. Her parents were Edmond Leathan, baptised on 18 Jun 1737 in St. Just and Mary Edwards. They were married on 07 Oct 1765 in St. Just.
Edmond's parents were Edmond Leathan and Loveday Matthews. From what I could find, they were married in Madron on 15 Apr 1732.
